I was scared spitless -- the nausea was coming on "slow" like it does with renal failure or liver failure. His liver values had been high ....
HE JUST HAS A GUT ACHE!!!
He's got skillions of gut bacteria. Dr. Bailey said he couldn't palpate any "firm" stool at all and it was so inflamed Dr. Bailey felt it hugely in his hands. But Billy being Billy we ran bloodwork, etc.
The one liver value is down -- but another is *higher* (the ALT) but that honestly could be consistent wtih this massive of an amount of gut bacteria. Still don't know why he's drinking so much but he is concentrating his urine and the kidney values are NOT high (phew).
He's staying on the Baytril (for the skin) but adding a pretty big dose of Metrnydazole (Flagyl) which should relieve the gut issues pretty fast. Flagyl is often used to treat liver inflammation ANYWAY so no worries there.
Thank you all SO much. I was freaked -- I also felt guilty because when David woke me this morning I thot it was THURSDAY so I thot I could take him to the vet on the other end of the day -- NOPE -- the vet's gone at 2 on friday. gulp.
phew. Thanks folks. Dr. B was as worried as I was cos THIS dog never passed up a meal!! He's a chow hound in a big way. So for HIM to not finish dinner?? That's massive!!!
Now I gotta go to work and probably stay there til mid-evening cos I'm swamped. But hey -- at least I can do it without worry!!
