Just checking in to get the latest on Charles -- excellent news that he's in rehab already and well enough to get right to PT. It doesn't surprise me that it "kicked his butt." When I had a few weeks of PT for a back problem, I thought I'd collapse a few times. I said to myself, "Geez, I thought my back was the problem, but apparently my whole body needs help!" As nice as the therapists are, they can feel like drill sargeants sometimes! I'm sure he'll see improvement every day.
Isn't it remarkable what a shower and a hairwash can do for one's overall mood? When my mother was released from the hospital after her intestinal surgery last fall, within 5 minutes of being home, she headed straight for the shower. She said she felt like she had to wash off a week of hospital germs and grime! That and a clean, comfy pair of PJs, and she was almost like new!
I hope everything continues to go as smoothly as possible -- and tell Charles not to get discouraged about short-term memory loss. At least a couple times a week I walk out of my office and stop dead in my tracks because I can't remember what I got up for! I know it's not the same thing in his case, but it's easier to deal with than other effects he could have been left with. In time, you'll both adjust to it with patience and humor.
