Jackie's husband Charlie

Thanks for all the continued prayers and good thoughts and vibes. I wish I could give each and every one of you a big hug.  Charles was looking so good today!  He walked twice around the ICU.  He ate as well as he could considering the crappy hospital food.  He is so excited to be getting out of the hospital and into rehab.  His pain is under good control.

Rehab will consist of physical therapy to regain his strength. They say three to four hours a day.  He grimaced at that a bit. lol   They will also do an evaluation on memory issues and work on that, if needed.  He has some short term memory loss.  He has all his motor skills as far as I can tell.  My sister brought him a portable DVD player and he had no problem setting it up and all that.

Some of the people in that neuro critical care unit are so terribly disabled, that every time I see Charles I marvel at how lucky he has been.  He has a few months to deal with the colostomy and possibly some memory issues that should be temporary.  Those seem inconsequential when I think of what could have been.

Thanks again everyone.  You all remain in my thoughts daily and I am forever grateful for your tremendous support.  I will need a small suitcase to take home all his cards. :)

What a perfect way to end the weekend with a positive post from you about Charles. You and Charles may have some challenges ahead but you've already shown how strong you both are. You'll be fine and we'll be beside you both all the way. :)

I just love coming back to this post and getting some good news.  Woo Hoo!  Go Mr. Jackie!!!!

Hopefully Rehab will help the depression a little bit.  I think getting to be able to DO something should lift his spirits.  Plus it brings him that much closer to being able to go home.

((((hugs)))) As always Jackie, continued prayers, hugs, good thoughts, and love to you both.

So glad to hear more positive news!!

The giant "Jackie and Charles" candle is getting pretty low!  Phew.  Glad it's lasted through the worst of it!

Continue to take care of youself as best you can, Jackie.  You can't take care of anyone else if you're running on fumes.

Jackie it's so good to hear that Charlie is doing  so well.   I know exactly what you mean about how fortunate he is.   We felt the very same after Ron broke his neck.  He walks he talks and he can for the most part function on his own.   It wasnt until almost 9 months after the accident that we realized the full scope of the short term memory loss for him.  It was after we had gotten him off all the pain meds, I guess I kept thinking his memory loss was much due to meds.  This is something that we have learned to live with.  It's not difficult and we have learned to laugh about it.  Ron does have some days that are worse than others but for the last 10 years we have been thankful that he can still walk and talk.  The computer has been a good tool for him. repetitive games especially make him focus.    Routine is also good for him.  He is on several meds and we have a very good routine so that he doesnt forget to take them, I write him a note each morning telling him how much I love him and reminding him to take his pills and whatever else he needs to accomplish each day.  Then I go to work.  When he gets up and around he has the same routine each day, when he is thru with his pills and breakfast he calls me.  There are times that Ron gets really irritated with himself because of the memory loss problem, he mostly remembers tons of thing that happened before the accident but might not remember why he went from the living room to the kitchen, those little things are what we have to laugh at to break his mood.  Funny thing is, that my own memory is getting slower, lol, cause I am getting older, so we laugh alot at our house!!!!

Our prayers are still with you Charlie will feel so much better once he is able to get away from the hospital.

My god, it's been just under two weeks and look at the tremendous strides Charles has made.  Absolutely amazing.  One can only be thankful and appreciative of every healthy moment he's been granted to be here with his family and loved ones.  Continued prayers & gratitude for the "powers that be" from Colorado.
