I need some Abbie healing vibes :(

I posted several days ago about Abbie eating the hand warmer which has a main ingredient of Iron. The way iron toxicity works in dogs is that they get sick about 6-8 hrs after the initial ingestion, then they recover, then 24-96 after that they relapse and typically die. Well, Abbie did get sick 6 hours on the dog from when she ingested it. However, she never did have a relapse. We have taken her blood several times and she is well beyond the toxicity level for dogs and is near human toxicity levels.

We took her blood again Wed and I just called the vets to get the results. The receptionist said "The doctor is doing some research and is going to call you back" Yikes! That does NOT sound good. She would not give me the test results.

    I'm pretty worried now :(

Julie -- just saw your ARPH e-mail. I am so sorry.

Is a blood transfusion an option?

I have no idea :( the last chat the vet and I had was something about the same treatment in humans which is "very expensive". I can't remember what is was called.

She's been on my mind.... this is scary to get a reaction like that from the receptionist, esp since you were not told what the latest results were.  Sending extra strong "HEALTH" vibes that she can clear this out of her body and not have any permanent damage.  Hugs to you and lovins to Abbie, too.

Poor Abbie!! I hope she is feeling better really soon.

I wouldn't freak out yet, I've had receptionists tell me things like that over the telephone and it turned out to be something stupid. "The vet is looking into some things and will call you back later" once translated to "The vet is actually checking his calendar for when to do the surgery, because he's going on vacation soon and wants to make sure everything is scheduled properly."

Don't start worrying at least until you hear what's going on!
