Do your dogs....make you laugh?

Sorry Xerxes but this is off-topic but I can#%92t pass this opportunity for a story.  For anyone that owns an African Grey Parrot, they know that this bird is the master at mimicking voice and sounds.  And those sounds are like the real thing.  My bird, Echo picked up the sounds of doorbell, door squeaking, microwave buzz, dryer buzz, etc.  The bird also associated the sound with action/movement on my part.  So whenever the dryer would be running Echo was aware of this by the sound of the motor.  He waited the appropriate lapse of time before he would mimic the sound and mimic the sound to be at a distance.  I can#%92t tell you how many times this caused me to pause and check the dryer.
 
On topic I always get a chuckle when 5 large dogs squeeze on to one orthopedic dog bed when there are other dog beds around in the room.  To see them look so uncomfortable makes me laugh.

Sequoyah teases her best friend, Rosa, by taunting her with a tennis ball in her mouth.  When Rosa gets sick of the chase game and stops, Sequoyah will drop the ball, even letting it roll toward Rosa, but of course she grabs it as soon as Rosa makes her move.  If things are really in danger of coming to a halt, she might occasionally let Rosa take the ball.  It's really hysterical - Rosa's mom and I get laughing over it and it's hard to stop.
My dogs make me laugh a lot, and I'm sure they get a doggy chuckle out of the human now and then, too. []

My dog makes me laugh... at him not with him. He's adorable but not a clown. I'd describe his personality as earnest which can provide plenty of opportunities for comedy in its own way. []

Lucy LOVES to play with this squishy rubber ball that my kids got at Christmas. I was afraid she'd poke a hole in it, but it is so squishy she has to hold it softly or it will squish right out of her mouth. She pounces on it, throws it up in the air, catches it in her mounth and rolls over on her back while she holds that ball in her paws and in her mouth. Jusr hilarious to watch! She plays more like a cat than our cat does. Actually, now that I think about it, the cat is a better retreiver than she is. Cletus will chase his little glitter balls then bring them right back and drop them in your hand to throw again. When Lucy gets a ball she plays keep-away!

My sister's danes like to play tug with a big stuffed octopus. THen her little rat terrier joins in. I think the sight of that 12 pound terrier suspended mid-air btween two 150 pound danes is priceless!

DPU, that parrot story is ADORABLE! My sister's amazon learned to call the cats - he even knew their names! He'd sit there on his play gym and call "heeerrre kitty, kitty, kitty!" and when they came he'd say their names "Hi, Walter!" "Hi, Francis!". They were both black, but one was longhaired and he could tell them apart. Maxwell is one funny bird. I bird sat him for 3 days and now, almost 10 years later, he yells the only words he picked up at our house - "Blackhawk NO!"

Wow…I don#%92t even know where to begin.  First of, greyhounds are some of the silliest dogs I have ever met and they LOVE to show off and play for their owners.
 
Prudence loves to make sure I am watching her and will do something silly to make me laugh. If I am NOT watching her at the time, she will run up to me and put her nose right up to my nose and then run away to do her silly ticks. She LOVES to rub her face and whole body against the couch or bed and literally walks laps while bobbing her head up and down and making snorting noises. All the while she is watching me out of the corner of her eye to assure I am watching her silliness!
 
When I am on the computer she will race up to me and again touch her nose to my nose so that I notice her and then she will run over to the toy box and find a good and annoying toy and play with it, all the while still making sure I am watching her and laughing at her antics…
 
When I am sitting on the couch or computer and I laugh at something (completely NOT dog related) she thinks I am laughing at her and will try to perform her silly acts for me. What a goofy girl… she thinks everything is all about her!    [sm=biggrin.gif]
 
JJ is FAR more dignified, BUT really enjoys playing hide and seek with me on walks and will do a great job of popping out and surprising Prudence and her daddy when they turn the corner.  Then the pups seem to know that they are being funny and start playing with one another. [8D]

I have a couple pretty serious dogs. I laugh at them all the time, but rarely with them.

The exception is Conrad at the dog park. He morphs into this ridiculous clown and bounds and prances around with this huge smile on his face. But normally, he's incredibly dignified, or he tries very hard to be (which is a source of amusement on it's own). Marlowe is a little bit sillier, but he also is generally very serious. He is at his most deadly serious when he's sleeping, which actually makes for some good yucks because you can literally pick him up and flip him over when he's sleeping and he won't even open his eyes. He gets the sillies a couple times a day for brief moments, usually directed towards trying to get Conrad to play with him.

They do play dirty tricks on each other all the time though. Marlowe has to employ all his wiles to get things back from Conrad because Conrad is the notorious Bone Thief of the house (he's dominant, he gets away with it). Marlowe can't blatantly steal back because he's submissive and also no match for Conrad's sheer size and strength. So, tricks must be played. He does the dog equivalent of "Look, over there, what's that?" That's pretty funny to see. Conrad's usually not laughing though!

Great question.  Mine defintitely show-off.  They love to show-off for us and especially for company.  They also would rather that we be involved when they play...this goes along with the whole audience thing, as well.  I'll have to really think on what they may be doing on purpose to express humor and get the same response from us.

  [sm=rotfl.gif]Peanut does that to Draico all the time!  When he decides he's had enough taunting, he'll go lay down in her crate i guess as pay back.  Sometimes if Draico doesn't want to chase her, she'll get Bonkers to chase her round the sofa.  When he tires and hops up onto his kitty condo, the goofball will chase herself round the sofa as he sits there watching her.  It's a riot!
 
I love it when Draico decides he's a lap dog and plops on DH only to leave his head on DH's lap while the body slides onto the floor.  Goofy dog! []
 

Shooter (9 pounds) loves to sneak onto Bevo's (75-80 pounds) bed and nip at Bevo's feet.  Bevo is very foot sensitive, he can't stand to have his feet touched.  Bevo always jumps straight up & starts a game of chase.  They race around the house, eventually bringing all of the other dogs into their game as well.
 
This morning during their game of chase, Shooter ran under the coffee table & Bevo tried to follow.  In the process, the table was upended.  When the table went over, both Bevo & Shooter jumped in their beds & looked back at the other dogs as if they were guilty.

G does exactly the same thing.
What really makes me laugh is her stop/stare at me, quick sidelong glance where her entire body is still like a statue, waiting for my reaction, but her nub (tail) gives her away as it's flickering a mile a minute. Also, G's ears are extremely communicative, so I can watch her process things just by watching the tilt and pitch and rise and fall of her ears.
There's still nothing better to make me laugh than catching sight of the first 2 inches of her long Dobe nose poked through the cracked open bathroom door.  As if to say,"Umm, I know you're busy right now, but, um, whenever you're done I'm right here ready to play again...Don't forget... right here, playtime puppy at your service..."

They only poke thier noses around the door? Mine just come barging right in. So do my cats. I haven't gone to the bathroom alone in 5 years!

What do my dogs do to make me laugh? 
 
Xerxes does this thing where he rubs his face on the carpet and makes angry noises.  So of course I'll look over at him and he's set up like a tripod.  His butt is way up in the air and his face is on the ground.  I always get a laugh out of that because of the look on his face.
 
Whenever the two of them have stolen something and had a good time with it (like the pound of ground beef the other night) they'll come over to me afterwards and both of them will try to look soooooo innocent.  That's when I know something's wrong.   
 
Gaia gets so excited whenever she sees me putting shoes on that she becomes hysterical.  She'll play-bow and run and throw her stuffies around.  It's funny to watch because she normally doesn't do alot of playing with stuffies, and because she's so serious most of the time.
 
Gaia also likes to "trick" Xerxes when he's got a toy that she wants.  She'll come over to me and start loving on me which gets Xerxes interested in coming over...he does and she takes the toy.  Then he gets frustrated with her and she gives him this look that is priceless.  It says "you shouldn't have been so gullible...so HA!"

In my case, the cat has laid claim to the bathroom as HIS territory.  The minute I go in there, he's "guarding" it and me against that tall black and tan beast...
