I find it amazing that leadership and control could be so opposed in a thread about two such breeds. It is by no means everything, but I find it difficult to believe that anyone could think it is not important.

I don't think anyone was opposing leadership and control, quite the opposite.  Management of a situation is controlling that situation.

The basic premise that I understood after reading the posts was that in this particular case, leadership and meeting the dogs needs will not be enough to stop the fighting.  In some breeds it might, but these two particular dogs already have a history of fighting, and neither breed has a reputation for leaving a vanquished dog alive.

With the information we have at hand, the best advice to the OP is for a professional to evaluate both dogs and make a determination as to a proper course of action.

You said it more eloquently than I, Ed, so no need for any more typing...

I am temporarily locking this, as I think it may have run its course but in any case it might be a good time to step back and think about what is a valuable contribution to the thread when the OP appears not to have returned for further advice.
