Dog Whisperer Season 3

I thought he did a great job of helping them decide which dog was best.

I agree and I think people can benefit from getting advice from a professional before picking out that next dog.  Clearly, VM's son wanted to pick the dog he felt looked most like the one they just lost, and solely based this on the dog's "looks".

Many people, myself included, are easily swayed by a "cute" dog or one that reminds us of another.  But, that doesn't mean it's the best choice for the family or current dog.  I think this episode made that issue stand out and point out a fairly obvious mistake many people make and then have heartache down the road.

I am not clear (I came in a little late) why the owners didn't have the Amstaff's leg amputated vs. the graft and leaving of the damaged leg??  Dogs generally do well on 3 legs and this dog was young enough to compensate for the loss.  That leg looked painful to me and seemed useless to have it "hanging" off the side like that!  Can someone clear that up for me as to why that damaged leg was left intact???

Yeah, I agree, I thought they should of amputated and the vets did give that option.

But, the owner, the husband, said that he thought that since she was so young what if something happened to her other leg.  That was his reasoning, I didn't agree with him but that was what they said.  They didn't go into much detail about it but they did say that.

I'm not sure that's completely done healing though.  And, I don't know if you heard it but they did mention that the dog was using the leg more now that he wasn't pulling so much.

Holy moly!!  I mean, anything can happen at any time, but the odds of your dog losing another leg is pretty remote I would imagine!

You know, I did hear them say at the end and could see that he was using that injured leg more as he was walking slower in more in control.  I think the challenge here was definitely the male owner.  He was absorbed in guilt or pitty or something that wasn't allowing him to move forward.  Sounds like he decided to work on that and make some changes for the better.

The owner of the dog with the injured leg beleived that he could have some use of that leg and that was better than no leg.  He took 4 months off work and worked hard on pysical theropy - amazing the dedication to the dog.

As for the tennis racket dog.  The idea of the tennis racket was protection more than anyting.  Cesar wanted people to approach confidently and the tennis racket was the tool (he had in his car) that protected him from a dog bite while they approached with confidence.  In the end the guy could enter in the yard without the tennis racket.

I don't think he was so much worried that she would lose the other leg as much as what if she injured it at some point.

I agree with you but I can understand what he was thinking too.  The dog lives a pretty active life with them.

I just wanted to pop in and say I think you guys are doing a GREAT job with this thread in spite of well...I think you know what I mean [;)].. There's my positive feedback!

While I enjoyed the show, I'm not to crazy about the job the editors are doing this season. I'd like to see Cesar have more controll over what's being shown. thoughts?

How do you know he's not??

My opinion, his show needs to be heavily edited because if it's not some moron takes what he says exagerates it to the n'th degree and hurts their dog.  Did you notice last night he made a big point to say he wasn't hitting the dog with the tennis racket?
    • Gold Top Dog
I don't understand why I was edited, it wasn't a swear word or anything.  I see lots worse and nothing gets edited.  This forum is getting ridiculous--I feel like I'm in grade school when I post here.

Getting a little personal here folks.......

Who? Did nothing more than make observations on what I was reading. I am in no way...emotional over the subject, I...prefer facts. If someone is going to come on to a open...public...forum...and make statements, they should certainly understand those statements...might!...be commented on. Is that not...a fact?
    • Gold Top Dog
That comment wasn't directed at you.  I hope this sentence isn't edited too, LOL!!

I  liked that Cesar didnt back up and follow the blueheeler all the was to his Kennel, there is some trainers that thing that you should not touch your dog when he is in his create because thats his "safe place" but for me that means that he can do whatever and then and hide there because he knows he cant be touched there wich is wrong, and i got kicked off from a forum once when i said that not touching the dog because he was in his "safe place" was wrong

About the kid's dog situation i wanted almost smack the kid in the head and tell him "what part of 'he is not the right dog' you dont understand?" hehe i know he is a kid but you can tell the mother let him do a lot of stuff, she spent more time trying to convince him than just telling him no [:D]

I thought he showed a lot of maturity to even come around at all and not throw a fit over it.  But, he did show his age of course, like when he said the fact that the dog was snarling at him was "cool".

I believe he stated on a radio talk show that he wasn't involved in the editing process. Perhaps I misunderstood, I wasn't really paying close attention at the time. And his show is definately "heavily edited", the viewing public is only seeing approx 15 minutes of a 2 to 3 hour session. Speaking of sessions, I better get back to work.

I don't recall having made an appointment to be analyzed.  This is a dog forum, on which we sometimes have debate, even heated debate.  It is not a place for amateur mental health counseling.  You should be careful of such remarks lest you hurt someone who takes these things more seriously than I do.

You made comments on the internet...on a forum. I simply commented on your comments and made an observation. What I didn't do...unlike you...is make any snide remarks. Which I'm sure could have hurt some feelings. And did you not say "you were done with this thread"? Perhaps if you weren't so busy bashing Cesar, you wouldn't feel the need to defend yourself so much.

Right back at you.  I think this has degenerated enough.  See you on the real behavior threads perhaps.
