Well, I for one have never claimed to be a trainer. I am the self proclaimed expert on nothing. I'm just an old broad with a lot of dog experience under my belt. I have SIX german shepherds who are well behaved animals, who I can walk in town or off lead with deer crashing through the woods and who will recall perfectly to me regardless of the situation. Five of them have earned their CGC. One pup spent two months in his "new" home before coming back to me totally screwed up and HE is the dog who was able to do the 6 mile MS Walk with me and was so completely and TOTALLY focused on the walk he wouldn't even take a treat.....and I had to tell him to drink water.
I personally become frustrated when someone asks a specific question, I offer suggestions and immediately someone comes behind me and says the DOG (who is a 10 or 11 week old PUPPY) has a fixation and links to CM. And that while it might be cute to let the puppy do whatever he wants to do.....blah blah blah.....
In the particular thread I'm discussing, the pup is snagging rocks. In MY opinion, given the pups age, he needs something uber hard to chew on, such as raw bones. I did not come to this opinion from reading books or watching videos. I came to this opinion by raising DOZENS of pups, and particularly pups of the breed in question. But, someone has to come right behind me with the CM link and confuse the new owner with a bunch of gobbledy gook. It is FRUSTRATING to try and offer someone genuine help and have someone come right behind you and basically say, without saying it, that you are stupid, your advice is stupid and the only one that can possible fix this problem is some superstar trainer.
I've been on idog for almost three years. Anyone who has been here for more than a nano-second has come to respect that I don't talk through my rear and that gee, I might know what I'm talking about when I offer suggestions because I've been there, done that, bought the tshirt, and made my own mistakes along the way. Had someone linked to Ian Dunbar or ANY of the +R trainers for the same question I would STILL have thot it to be a bit over the top because we are talking about a danged puppy who needs some harder chew stuff provided to him. Not a fixated dog who has a long history of a problem. Now had the pup been chewing rocks for months and months, THEN we would need more expert advice than I can offer.
So excuse me if I don't always hold my temper.
