    Only one.

Now there may be more than one, but for this thread, name only one thing watching Cesar helped you learn about your dog. Something that made a big difference.

The rule of: Excercise, discipline and THEN affection

    That's an easy one.

How he uses his eyes. It's one of those seemingly minor "things" which I was sometimes messing up on by softening them or not giving direct eye contact at times (when it would have been appropriate to do so) in order to not put too much pressure on the dog.

What I learned, was by not using them correctly, I was seeing confusion in some dogs because I think to them, I was not communicating directly and/or sending a clear "leadership" signal.

There were many places I was using them correctly, and I already knew not to suddenly look at a dog who was having a fearful reaction, but observing him on his show really helped me perfect appropriate eye-contact.

It's a real treat to be able to watch him and pick up on the nuances of how he interacts with a dog.

When I adjusted just this one thing, it made a huge difference. [;)]

I have learned from him the more subtle cues of behavior and the timing necessary to redirect before escalation. That is, my observation and timing has improved.

I have learned to really observe my dogs, watch body language, and with the right timing bad behavior can be nipped in the butt.

I learned that there were others out there that believed the way myself and my long time mentor and a few others do.

I learned to put Kato's needs before my own.  Respect him for the dog he is and hopefully that makes our relationship better.

Be calm and assertive. That alone made a HUGE difference in how my dogs respond to me.

One thing I learned was the importance of the walk.  Before, I just thought walks were for letting my dog go to the bathroom.  I figured as long as I have a decent sized backyard for my dog to run around, that's all he really needs, I don't even need to take him on walks right?

Now I know how much my dog needs to walk, not only for exercise but for mental stimulation, breaking up the monotony of being in the house all day and establishing my leadership as well.   I like how Cesar compares the walk to the hunt and migrating.  My dog always gets his supper after our hour long, evening walks.

I've never read or heard of any other trainer emphasizing the walk the way Cesar does.
Birds fly, fish swim and dogs WALK!!

I learned to live in the moment and stop feeling sorry for what happened in her past.  That she had moved on and I needed to too.  That she wasn't a victim anymore. [:)]

He taught me how happy I am that my dogs were well trained with "hands off' methods and don't exhibit the behavior problems highlighted on the show. [:D]
