    Dog Whisperer Season 3

Ok let's continue discussing the new season here [:D]

You mentioned the little boy that Cesar asked if he wanted to work for him someday.  Have you noticed that on some of the programs it's the KIDS that get it best??  There was another episode with an unruly beagle and the little girl had the best calm, assertive attitude and was consistant.  The parents were a bundle of nerves and causing most of the problems!  He asked her if she wanted to work for him too.  Maybe there's something about the way kids look at things and simplify them vs. adults that analyze to the nth degree and make mountains out of molehills!  Oh to be a child again and think in simple terms!![;)]

I think that may be becuase up to a certain age...kids are OPEN to being directed and learn mostly via repetiion and emulating adults around them. They are fine with "copying" someone elses mannerisms or words and often take pride in that they CAN do so very well.

They do not mind appearing foolish...in front of a camera or not...I've noticed this about Cesar as well...he can make faces or funny noises or imitate a dogs expression and NOT be self concious about it [:)] Makes him very easy to talk to it would seem, for adults.

Kids are also often praise motivated and thus do what they're asked by unfamiliar adults or non parents a lot of the time...this is dangerous to kids almost as much as it is a boon to teachers, doctors, and people like that.

    Thanks espencer!

I was a little dissapointed with the closing of my original thread at first.  I was really hoping to generate some interesting discussion on different training techniques from people who agree and disagree with Cesar's methods.  I like to take in different points of view, learn, and decide for myself what's best for my dog or any dog I may meet in the future.  It's too bad that discussion can't take place without the snide remarks and sarcastic comments certain people can't help themselves from making whenever CM is brought up.

I guess starting a seperate CM discussions section is a good idea, I just hope that people who don't necessarily agree with things he does can still contribute in a polite and enlightening way.  As I said, I think it's important to hear all sides of view.

    I agree [:D]

My understanding is that this new area is for people who like to discuss Cesar in a postive light.  We've proven over and over again that any thread that contains the name Cesar Millan in it always turns into a mess.  I don't think there is a way to discuss him with every side present.  You can still get all sides of the training coin through this site, just not on a Cesar thread!  However, I am also under the impression that Cesar won't be bashed on another thread, because Jaime doesn't want any more heated debates started.  Therefore, if someone were to start in on Cesar someplace else, I'm sure someone would come to his defense and round and round we'd go again.

I mean, I don't go to threads that I don't have any interest in to start debate.  I don't feed my dogs raw food and know very little about doing it.  But, I would never fault anyone for doing so.  Everybody has their own thing, and it's not about being right or wrong all the time.

It seems to be a hot debate and I liken it to trying to politely discuss "Republican"  vs. "Democrat" with both sides represented!  That would get ugly too.

    Espenser,
When I edit I don't expect to see it back in again. There was a reason for it being removed. I'll expect you won't do this again

I've been impressed with the new season - I particulary enjoyed last night's show where he was educating a young boy on which dog would be a better fit for their family. The boy initially wanted a very sassy Pom mix, which was doing a little one upmanship with their 10 year old Frenchie.  CM pointed out that the Pom would make life stressful for the Frenchie.  The child saw the light eventually and picked the dog that would be an easy fit with the family - good lesson there.

I was also intrigued with how CM handled an aggressive ACD - he used a tennis racquet to keep himself safe and then went into the dog's house with the racquet - the dog took out his frustration on the racquet and finally gave up the aggression.  The dog had bitten a friend of their's and they were concerned that this would escalate.  At the end of the session, the dog would allow the friend to enter the home w/o a problem.  ACD's are notoriously assertive and this was a rather unique
way to handle it (tennis racquet)  At NO time did CM use the racquet for anything other than a blocking tool.

Well, I guess I'm mostly a +R person and I feel pretty strongly that I don't want to frighten or distress my dog during training if I can possibly avoid it. I also keep a very open mind when it comes to other training methods, because dogs are all different and sometimes my preferred method might not work so well. So even though I don't have access to the new season of DW, if people explain in a little detail what they saw and what they wish to discuss, I can still contribute, maybe. [:)]
