WATER WATER EVERYWHERE! On the floor and in the air!

    Just thinking outloud here...

Could she maybe be allergic to something in her food? Has she been allergy tested (sorry if you already touched on this)? When Rosco was a puppy he drank an insane amount of water when given certain food, and it turned out to be allergy related.

Rosco also use to soil our first apartment out of separation anxiety, so that might be something to consider also. Does she have accidents when you are home too?

    Pit_Pointer_Aussie:

Very good observation. My Vet told me (in reference to noticing dry/itchy skin) a possibility could be a food allergy. I got a nutritionist who helped me realize that NUTRO products are horrible. She recommened Natrual Balance Organic... enjoyed it for awhile but then I could tell she found it very blan... I really wanted something with Liver in it since she's such a liver girl. She loves her new food which isn't the BEST because it has Rice & Soybean Oils... [Nature's Best: Puppy (Liver & Brown Rice)] I told myself if those became a problem I would try a different food.

"SalemsMom" posted that Grain Free food on here that I would be very eager to try once this bag runs out... even though I still have a bag of NUTRO Max, Natural Balance Organic, and this stuff still left... haha I feel like I run a food store! So I want to at least finish this stuff so I stop upsetting her tummy and changing her diet so much...

Any suggestions to food? I dislike any ingrediants with Corn, Oil-Starches, Soy & Soybean, Wheat/Grain, Meat/Chicken by-products... (hense why that new food SalemsMom said looks good)

That does *not* sound normal to me. Did you check her for a UTI?

Rascal needs to pee 3 times a day. (He pees more on walks, obviously, since he likes to mark everything in sight, but then it's just a few drops per leg-lift.) He goes out around 8:00, between 12-2:00, and then around 7-8:00. If I'm up late, I'll take him out again around 11:00 pm, right before bed. He poops 2 times a day, usually first thing in the morning and last thing at night, though occasionally in the afternoon. He took FOREVER to housetrain, but he's 4 now and he never messes inside anymore (except for emergencies).

Does this schedule seem abnormal Cita?? "Jenn52" said her Beagle pees up to 7 times a day! You having a Pap our dogs bodies are fairly similar (esp. when it comes to housebreaking)

I have checked twice for a UTI... each time he has said no and "its a puppy they pee a lot"

Do you think I should go back again?

Oh, I guess I missed that your dog is a puppy. How old? For a young dog that seems pretty normal to me. Does your pup have free access to water? (Mine does - I worry about him getting dehydrated.)

Rascal seriously took *forever* to housetrain. He never caught on to the "make noise at the door if you need to go out" idea. Eventually he was trained to use a bell to ask to go outside and that worked much better. He wasn't reliably houstrained until he was something like 6 months old, though, and he's not a dumb dog. It just took a LONG time (partially because his owner wasn't very vigilant/consistent).

I think if I was in your shoes, I would run a full allergy panel to see what I was working with. Then I would find a food based on the results from that test. If the results came back with no allergies, then I would probably look into the UTI again. Sometimes a low grade UTI can hang out for a while causing problems, but still go undetected.

My 11 month old Aussie pees frequently, but we take her out a lot, so I think she's learned to empty her bladder whenever she has a chance. She recently had a UTI and it was very clear when there was a dramatic change in the frequency -- she HAD to go every two hours at the least and was whining, licking and drinking water like crazy. She's still on antibiotics (it's a two week course), but her symptoms are gone.

    Cita:

She'll be ONE YEARS OLD on February 1st :o)

It has taken/took a very very long time for her as well... Moving a lot made it hard on her. And out temporary home in a high-rised apt until April/May makes it even harder

I was reading your post about your little dog not being able to even be in her crate longer than 2 hours.  You said you were taking her to the vet, and I just wanted to say that I think that is a very good idea.  I had a dog that had I noticed starting to drink huge amounts of water and had to go potty very frequently.  She was totally housebroken, and I started to come home and noticed that one of my dogs was having accidents, and they were very large amounts.  I also noted that she was drinking huge amounts of water.  She then started to need to go out several times during the night.  I knew something was wrong.  She ended up having diabetes insipidus.  The problem was that this was discovered too late.

I am not saying your dog has this or anything, it may be just the puppy thing.  I just wanted to make sure you had her checked by your vet.  That way, you can put your mind at rest.  My motto is that it never hurts to have the vet check it out.

Since you've had her at the vet many times, and she's still very young, and you've just moved... for now, I'd probably chalk it up to puppy-ness and potentially stress. Maybe stress/boredom is causing her to drink too much? It does concern me that she can't have free access to water, but Rascal only typically drinks 5 times a day or so anyway, so...

For food, I've had Rascal on Timberwolf Organics (Wild 'n Natural flavor) and he's now on Innova Evo Red Meat. Both worked quite well for him, but he seems to be doing slightly better on the Innova (less dry skin).

I was reading your post about your little dog not being able to even be in her crate longer than 2 hours.

Just to make a correction I never said this... someone else did

My dog doesn't get crated anymore while I am gone, we are past that stage.

Thank you for all this awesome advice today everyone! This really is a subject that was frustraiting and concerning me :o)

I would not withhold water. It does not take long for a dog to dehydrate. Personally, I would not wait until my dog was thirsty to allow him to drink - IMO this can be dangerous. I've seen it too many times.

Being as small as she is, she probably needs to go out more often. My foster puppy goes out 5-6 times a day at least. More if I can, it's great for them to be able to get outside - tires them out. She's only 9 weeks, and 5 lbs - completely houstrained. There are many water bowls all over my house for the dogs and cats.

I realized that you didn't say that.  I was afraid that there might be confusion.  I replied to the other persons response hoping that she would read it.  I tried to e-mail her to let her know that I posted in reply to her post, but my computer had problems and shut down.  I had to go to the store and buy another cord.  Something happened to my cord---who knows what, but the battery went dead.  I live a pretty good ways from the store, so it took me awhile.

I do hope you get the situation solved with your little girl.  Believe me, I know how frustrating it can be at times--and you are always worried that you are trying to do the best thing for your dogs.  My little girls are like my children also and I love them so very much.

Your little girl is very pretty.  I like to read all about her little adventures.
