WATER WATER EVERYWHERE! On the floor and in the air!

That sounds like an awful lot of work!!  Have you ever thought about litterbox training her? 

  Kayla is a cutie;   I disagree with restricting how much water she can have. How about training her to use a litter box or those pads made for indoor dogs? Then she could "go" as often as she needed and you wouldn't have to restrict her water.

have you had her checked by a vet? not just a quick exam, but bloodwork for various things. it's not normal to drink that much, and quite a few diseases can cause insatiable thirst.

Yes it really is a lot of work... like.. i'm thinking about it right now! Not to mention there may be the possibility I can't go home on lunch break anymore to let her out, ahh what would I do?!

Litterbox has always been the "dirty" way to me... Living in an apartment right now I have no idea where I would put it anyway. I got a DOG not a CAT ya know? I always felt like "hey welcome to my home heres my dogs pee/poop box..."

But now I really understand WHY people do it!

Yeah idk... like I said right above here... it never seemed practical to me... but now I guess it does!! I just have no idea how to train her to do that. Kayla REFUSES to pee unless it is on grass now (or if she really really has to go)

I've tried having her go on the balcony... nope. She won't even go in the SNOW! She's so darn picky...

Any training suggestions?

lol trust me this dog is my child... I have fully-loaded pet insurance and used to LIVE at the Vet when she was a baby. She's gotten her blood work done three times and she's only 11months old! (talk about being protective, haha)

She drinks the way any dog ive ever seen drink... the problem is she's a tiny dog! her blatter is like a spec of dust! I live in a high-rise apartment and I simply can't take her outside all the time like she needs so I found a means to regulate her water.

I feel "bad" doing this since its not text book. But she now knows the word "water" and if she walks over to her bowl and there is nothing there I say "do you need some water?" and shell wag her tail then I"ll give her some till she's done... if I left it there all the time she'd just drink out of boredum... we changed her diet drastically (from 2cups a day... opppss... to 1/2 cup a day) likewise she'll drink water when she's hungry/bored too...

In summary... its deff not a health issue...

Because she sits at home all day from 8:30 - 5:30?? I must admit I have a life. I have a carear and then we deff don't just sit at home. I bring her practically everywhere I can.

She's got a billion toys, now nice new Kong toys, I leave the radio on... now for the most part she'll just sleep all day while I'm gone. But now that I notice when she pees I'm like girl stop drinking so much water!

Without the water there now its been so helpful though... I mean like I said I'm fair. Water in the morning, water at lunch, water with dinner, water after play or what she "asks." She'll go over to the bowl and paw at it (personally i think its out of hungry sometimes but she'll drink instead)

Maybe I will just try leaving water all day in there again... see what happens... when I first did it I just noticied no more accidents and less potty breaks (obviously)

How often does the average small dog go pee? That is information I'd really like to know. Because then I can decide if its my schedule or her body. 

 What about doing something like this on the balcony?  The sod needs to be changed every so often, but it's a good idea.

 We live in apartment and the grass near our apartment is gross from people not picking up after their dogs, so we just have Rory go on the balcony on the potty pads.  She prefers the Miracle Absorb brand, we get them in bulk from Sam's Club, they work the best IMO.  They aren't cheap and filmsy.  Rory goes pee (7 month beagle - 15 lbs) about 6-7 times a day I would guess.  1-2 times before we leave for work, once each time my friend comes to let her out (11&4), once we get home from work, 1 -2 times in the evening/on our walk.  Amounts of pee vary with how long it's been.

We are leaving in April/May (hopefully to more of a house/styled apt) but if not this would be another great solution! You're the best!

SIX-SEVEN TIMES PER DAY! EEEKK!! :o( idk how I'm going to manager her with that... *sigh* Right now I've got her going 4-5 b/c I take away the water... poor thing... grr I really need to figure this out I feel horrible about it

 just so you dont feel alone. I have a pug. she weighs about 5lbs and is 5 months. She will eat and eat and eat and also drink and drink and drink. I have to take her out at LEAST every 20 minutes. That is pushing it..sometimes she doesn't even hold it that long. Have you had her checked for crystals in her urine? I know you probably had her tested for a urinary tract infection but what about crystals? I had a dog with crystals that peed and drink sooo much it was crazy. I'm taking my pug to the vet tomorrow to hopefully rule out any urinary issues.. Oh, one more question for you. When you are at work is she in a crate? and if so does she pee in her crate ever? I can't leave my pug home longer than 2 hours or she will even pee in her crate so I have to have someone babysit her when I work.

Good so I'm not the only one...

Well she poops twice and pees 4-5 times per day now that I have a strict diet & water supply:

• BATHROOM: Pee & Poop between 7am - 8am 
• 1/4 cup of dry kibble @ 8am & water
• water @ 12pm
• BATHROOM: Pee & Poop between 12pm - 2pm
• BATHROOM: Pee between 5:30pm - 6:00pm
• 1/4 cup of dry kibble @ 6:30pm & water
• BATHROOM: Pee between 7pm - 9pm
• occasionally will supply more water if thirsty, playing, etc
• SOMETIMES EXTRA BATHROOM BREAK

She is no longer kept in the crate. She has free roam of the living room & kitchen.

If I can keep her on the schedule I listed above I won't have a problem other than when we move I need to make sure we stay close so I can continue to let her out on my lunch break.

Fact is... if I free feed & leave water down all the time she'll pee and poop whenever and I can't predict it.

I will also call the Vet to ask about "crystals" in the pee. I think I'm also going to get his medical opinion on whether or not I should leave water down all the time...

yeah, that's normal, but a dog should sleep all day if needs are met, not go around drinking water out of boredom. any regular exercise?  training games to work her mind? feed her out of a food-dispensing toy?

She'll go back to bed 8:30am - 12pm/1pm

I leave her two Kong stuffed treats and their is always one of those big flavor bones left out that she chews on from time to time. She's not that creative so the cube toys tend to confuse her... I was thinking about getting one of those "talk to me treat boxes"??? Saw it at the store.

When I come home from work @ 6pm - 6:30pm sometimes she is wide awake chewing on toys still or just walking around waiting for me. Sometimes she's sitting right at the door! Or other times she's sleeping...

When I come home we go out again for a nice long walk then we'll play and race up and down the hallways for awhile till she's totally out of breath (of course I give her more water after situations like this) then we'll usually go out again later. I bring her everywhere I go... try to keep her active... do you think she needs more exercise? Puppy play dates have deff helped her... I was thinking daycare once/twice a week??
