    Edie
sometimes food bashing, especially toward a super premium like TO can go a a little too far. We should be saving that for ol roy and beneful et al

How can you excuse a company that - #1 didn't notice for years that there were ingredients omitted on the bags, and  - #2 didn't follow AAFCO regulations for labeling in the first place? Did they not know the laws when they went into business? Then they say they are changing to be AAFCO compliant, but still lie about a "grace period" for changing packaging. Not exactly a "super premium" company, even *if* it's a super premium food - and thats a big if right now.

Mordanna has updated the front page of The Dog Food Project to address the TWO issues.  Interesting read.

Makes me glad I've never been the least bit tempted to try TWO.

I am also glad that I have never been tempted to try TWO.

TWO is becoming more concern about their bottom line....substituting lower quality ingredients.  I used to like Natural Balance also until they started paying more attention to their bottom line.

For years I've been balancing the volume of food required to keep weight on Ben, and his sensitivities.  Kibble, whatever I think of it, is the most efficient way to get calories into Ben.  Recent offerings of products that don't include his triggers were very welcome!

But now I see trouble with those companies on every side - NB let me down when they "didn't realize one of their suppliers was subbing in rice protein" in one of their supposedly very strictly controlled allergy formulas.  Solid Gold changed their ingredients and Ben suddenly doesn't do well on it for some reason.  I can only feed one product from NV and I'm suspecting something ooky is going on with it, as well now.  I just plain can't afford Orijen Fresh Fish - and who's to say they won't end up down the same path eventually?

Call me paranoid, but in a way Edie does have a point.  I'm done with commercial food for my special needs dog.  I'm doing a professional consult to make good and sure I don't screw him up - for the money I spend on premium foods I can pay for lifetime support if I wanted it!!

I stopped in my local favorite pet boutique this afternoon, and told the owner of the store I am done with TO. The store owner never stocked the food, but heard a while back they might be changing the ingredients, for the worse, so he was not surprised. He did tell me he is getting Taste of the Wild in next month, which he thinks has excellent protein sources, so I will be giving it a try for sure. I think this store owner is glad he never carried any TO products in his store. I know companies like Diamond have had their issues, but they, and many other of the larger companies, would never knowingly lie about what is in their foods. I don't think anything about TO is very trustworthy, a huge disappointment.

No dang wonder Emma FLIPPED OUT when I fed her a handful of Ocean Blue, last year. She's pretty dang allergic to chicken, and "chicken fat" definitely triggors her.

I've since realized that it's just plain stupid to feed her anything commercial. Even the dehydrated raw I bought for her causes her to have issues.

They also didn't list brewer's yeast, and Jessie is allergic to it; gets ear infections. I tried the Ocean Blue about 2 years ago but stopped feeding it when the quality control issues originally surfaced. This is horrific for owners of dogs with severe food allergies like Ben, Bugsy, and Emma, but it's awful for dogs like Jessie too. I really hope this company goes out of business or at the least gets severely penalized; there's a good chance dogs with food allergies have suffered because the company hasn't been honest about what was in the food.

Willow is really allergic to chicken and I was told to stay away from chicken fat too because in some dogs it could cause a reaction--especially if it's up high on the ingredient list.

My one Pug on the Ocean Blue gets very yeasty ears and nose fold when on foods with yeast. I couldn't figure out why on Ocean Blue, he was getting all yeasty ears, his coat was gorgeous, but not good ears. My only Pug with this problem luckily.

I usually just read these forums, but I had to sign up and make a comment..

You guys seriously have too much time on your hands.

How many "oh my god, Timberwolf is killing my dog from allergic reactions and bad ingredients" threads popped up before one person happened to notice a discrepancy in the labeling?  If you loved your precious pups so much, why weren't you all more actively aware; weren't the ingredient listings on the web-site ALWAYS up to date, according to TWO?

    Seriously guys, get a life.

The food was fine for the past 6 months until you read the bags?  Now all of a sudden the same ingredients are making your dogs sick?  Please.. you simply have too much time on your hands and you're all worse than a sewing circle.

And in case none of you can read, the explanation about 90% of the ingredients makes sense.  it was always "dried potato product" or "dried egg product," but AAFCO didn't have real definitions for them at the time, and when the bags were made, apparently, "potato" and "egg" were acceptable terms.  Same goes with Lamb or Lamb Meal.. turns out it WASN'T MEAL, and was Lamb.. sounds like you thought you were buying the meal and got full lamb instead -- and you're complaining?

Seems like you all just want something to complain about and this is the item of the week.  Grow up, already.  You could be spending this energy fighting pollution, political corruption or something else important, but instead you all hang out on your computers 24/7 and whine about the naming convention of ingredients on the back of a bag of food.

Btw, will I continue to feed TWO?  Yes.. that and Solid Gold.. you think every company out there is 100% honest?  Going to boycott them all?

I can handle a little crappiness from a company as long as their product works.  For me, that's all that matters.  It's like Bill Clinton.. did he lie to the American public about his personal life? Sure.. but was he a good president and get his presidential responsibilities handled? Yep.
