    Thanks for the info...

I know I should just assume that it is affected, but I found this:http://www.fda.gov/oc/po/firmrecalls/pg03_07.html Its put out by the FDA and states that Euk. dry is not made at the factory... but I guess that since they don't know what it is, they can't really say.

Don't even think twice about it. I didn't interpret it that way at all. I know you're just being helpful and thorough, thats all... No worries.

I know everyone has heard about the pet food recall it came out Saturday unfortunately two late for my cat freeway he was eating lams and became ill I took into to my Vet and he said he was kidney failure ......he was thirteen I assumed it was just him getting old so I had him euthanized I didn't want to see him suffer, I loved him to much for that  he was already sick a week come to find out a week later that he was poison buy his food (if I only knew ) maybe I could have saved him .....my other cat bob is at the vets also having kidney problems they have him IV Trying to save him ,the doctor believes that it's also due to the food poisoning   .   there is a recall on a lot of different brands the numbers range from 6339 to7073 But I just found out by looking on the variety pack 12   count box says the numbers are not in the recall but the pouches inside do...... so please do not feed wet food to your pets.............

I am so sorry to hear about your cat Freeway and I hope Bob makes it through this crisis.

Depending on the degree of kidney failure, some cats can live for years with CRF (chronic renal failure) with proper medical support.  Do not assume that your vet is an expert in CRF!  There is too much medical info out there for a vet to specialize in everything.  CRF cat owners are an excellent resource.

ETA:  Post in the Kitty Korner section of this forum, too!

If you wind up needing to do home subcutaneous fluids, the group below can tell you about the best needles to use so the cats barely notice.  With a little practice giving these fluids is NOT hard for the owner or traumatic for the cat!

Excerpts from an email I received:
I'm one of the moderators for a support group for people with CRF cats - [link>http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Feline-CRF-Support]http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Feline-CRF-Support[/link].  We can provide lots of info regarding CRF and it's treatment. You can join the group by going to the website.

If you don't have a Yahoo id, you'll need to sign up for one before you can join, but they are free.  It's also possible to signup for the group by email, but if you do that you won't have access to the website files and message archive.  Once you've joined, you can set things up to send group email to any email address you choose, or you can go "no mail" and read posts from the website.

... After you join, I suggest you send an intro message to the group and include ... blood test results.  Post all you can get, but especially the BUN, creatinine, phosphorus, and potassium.  ... Every cat is different, but with proper treatment many CRF cats live many months to years with good quality of life.  My own CRF cat is doing well almost 3 years after she was diagnosed. The Grand Dame of the group is a 23 year old cat that was diagnosed with CRF well over 5 years ago.  Obviously, not all cats do as well, but there is certainly reason to have hope.
One of the group members has put together an excellent website on CRF - [link>http://www.felinecrf.org/]www.felinecrf.org[/link].  It discusses CRF, it's symptoms and treatment, and commonly related illnesses.  Definitely worth a look."

This whole thing is so sad [:(]  If they aren't sure what's doing it I personally wouldn't (and don't) feed any of the Menu brand foods to my dogs be it wet or dry because of that reason.  Someone earlier said that warm water does a good job and it does.  My old guy has bad teeth and can't eat the hard foods any more but he chows when you soak it with hot water and it softens up a little.  Even the younger Shepherd would rather have her food soaked in water than dry.

I got a breaking news email that the "poison" in the pet food was rodent poison. The poor animals......it breaks my heart.

Edited to add: Oops, sorry, I hadn't read down far enough to notice that this was already posted in a new thread. (And I am a READING teacher!!)
My first post on this site, and I goofed it up!!! (I'd put an embarassed smiley here, if they would work on my computer here at school)

By MARK JOHNSON (Associated Press Writer)From Associated PressMarch 23, 2007 11:04 PM EDT
ALBANY, N.Y. - Rat poison was found in pet food blamed for the deaths of at least 16 cats and dogs, but scientists said Friday they still don't know how it got there and predicted more animal deaths would be linked to it.

After the announcement, the company that produced the food expanded its recall to include all 95 brands of the "cuts and gravy" style food, regardless of when they were produced. The company also said it would take responsibility for pet medical expenses incurred as a result of the food.  ...

Sadly I didn't know that menu food was making my food I thought it was made by Iams
when I talked to the representative at Iams he said that it was the only food that the company made for them, something to do with the packaging they didn't have the equipment to manufacture those stupid pouches....I don't understand why we were buying wheat from China, we have American farmers here that could definitely ;produced are wheat and not used such chemicals to kill our pets.
I am totally outraged[sm=banghead002.gif] not just because it affected my own animals but for all the other people that have lost their precious pets. it so terribly sad [&o] my heart goes out to all of them .....my cat bobcat is home from the hospital today with IV antibiotics and a $600.00 VET bill he goes back Monday for more bloodwork ,At this point we don't know if there will be any long-term damage [:@] my VET said 'because bobcat  ingested much less of the rat poison then my other cat freeway he has a good chance of survival
    if you catch it early.
