Pet food recall-LOOK HERE FOR UPDATES BEFORE REPEATING

Hi everyone, I might be being paranoid but, I heard Walmart is having some sort of pet food recall. I don't really know anything about it because I tuned into the news last moment. Purina one isn't being recalled is it? Normally my dog eats a special brand of dog foot (tends to be chicken and potatoes.) for dogs with allergies and I get it at a pet store, however she ran out a few weeks ago and I assumed Purina one would be the best thing I could get her at Walmart because, I could not get to the pet store. She has been eating Purina One lately, and I intend to have her keep eating it until the bag is empty - unless of course this is the food being recalled!

According to this article, they make food for more about 20 brands. They're going to release the recalled foods saturday.

The company said it manufacturers for 17 of the top 20 North American retailers. It is also a contract manufacturer for the top branded pet food companies, including Procter & Gamble Co.

P&G announced Friday the recall of specific 3 oz., 5.5 oz., 6 oz. and 13.2 oz. canned and 3 oz. and 5.3 oz. foil pouch cat and dog wet food products made by Menu Foods but sold under the Iams and Eukanuba brands. The recalled products bear the code dates of 6339 through 7073 followed by the plant code 4197, P&G said."

Does anyone know if Alpo is on the list??? My dog thew up the other day & once about 2 weeks ago and I'm wondering now if it was from the Alpo. If anyone knows please reply. I'm not giving him anymore until I know for sure...or I'll just toss it anyway to be safe. I have like 8 more cans.

Wow - I was surprised to see Authority and Nutro and Nutro Max on that list.

The press release says that the incidence of the complaints coincided with the addition of a new ingredient from a new supplier. They don't give any info on what the ingredient was. I'm hoping that other pet food manufacturers DO have access to this information - I can imagine several other manufacturers using the same supplier.

wheat gluten is what I read....and I thot it said that the wheat gluten source had since been replaced......IAMS and EUK were also included on the list that I saw.

I heard Iams and Eukaneuba as well, but they aren't on the list from Menu Foods, it was from P&G who makes Iams and Euk in an article.

Scary that nutro is on there.... also several store brands I'm familiar with, not that I feed them, but I know they are popular.

Yikes, I use Nutro dry and sub with raw, I am SOOO glad I did not use canned!

But now I will worry about the dry........nothing is safe anymore.

It figures...I finally got my picky pup to find something she actually likes to eat and now this....

I feed her Royal Canin puppy kibble with Nutro Natural Choice Puppy (pouches) to moisten. Sure enough, they're on the recall list and I have two of the pouches in my possession. Any wet suggestions to substitute until this problem gets figured out?

FYI...She is not fond of Natural Balance...

There are links at the bottom to P& G info, including the numbers on the bottom of the cans.

According to another site, here is how to read the bottom of an Iams can to know which code numbers to look for:

To read can product codes, refer to the bottom of the can. The first four numbers of the second line of numbers are the date code, and the following four numbers indicate the plant code. For example, if the second line begins with four numbers from 6339 to 7073 followed by the plant code 4197, then the can should be recalled. For foil pouches, the code numbers are located at the lower left hand corner on the back of the pouch. The date and plant codes appear in the third group of numbers, beginning an 11-digit sequence.

My son brought home some Blue Buffalo wet for the dogs and cats and that vanished in mili-seconds.
