    Salmon Supreme Treats

    8 oz. can pink salmon
    1 cup wheat flour
    1 cup corn meal
    1 tbsp garlic powder
    1 tbsp olive oil
    1 egg
Mix and spread in a greased 9x13 pan.  Bake at 415 degrees for 15 minutes.  Cut into squares while warm.  Watch out - you may feel like the pied piper - dogs that don'e even know their names come for these things.
(Note: never feed raw salmon to dogs)

Ooooo those sound tastey and not stinky!! I'm going to get the stuff for that tomorrow! I know mine LOOOOOOVVVEEE salmon!!!

They are in the oven now and I keep hearing scratch scratch whimper... they are scratching at the oven door... [:D] I think they are gonna like these!

These are the ones you use for training "come". [sm=lol.gif]

These are the ones you use to train them to come! But don't try training gentle with them... toss them to your furry pal from a safe distance!!! [sm=blush.gif]

Side note I *think* Marshall now knows Down whole heartedly! [sm=rofl.gif]

I  washed the salmon because it was REALLY salty smelling and I had to add an extra egg and a little more olive oil  and I used flaxmeal instead of flour...

Crazy good recipe Anne!!! CRAZY GOOD! And not as stinky as the liver ones when they are baking!

I forgot to add... the CATS went nuts over these to!! Even the oldster who doesnt' eat ANYTHING new!! HE turns down wet cat food...

Flax meal! I was wondering what I could switch for the corn meal:) Thanks, Hill!

That sounds good, I am going to make those tomorrow for my girls.

jennie, the flour and meal really just holds the salmon together.  You can substitute any flour or meal that is safe and palatable to dogs. [sm=happy.gif]

I'm so glad your dogs liked them, hill - sorry I forgot to warn you to keep your fingers out of the way...

sorry I forgot to warn you to keep your fingers out of the way...

    Don't worry I learned REAL quick!! [sm=rotfl.gif]

I was wondering... Mine came out really spongy textured kind of like pita breadish. You think it's because I used two meals instead of a flour and a meal?
    • Gold Top Dog
Probably, but it really shouldn't matter - I don't think the dogs  care.
BTW, these freeze really well, just like the liver treats.

Anne, I already had what I was going to switch the flour for:) Garbanzo bean flour makes NICE crunchy cookies....
    • Gold Top Dog
I like that - one variation for cookies, and one variation for softer treats that you can break up with your fingers in training class.  [sm=proud.gif]

I'm going to make these, but i think our corn meal is a different thing to yours. We use it here to make gravies or thicken up sauces etc,and only 2-3tbs at most..It's pure white with  a slippery consistency.I've never seen anything that calls for a cup of it.So somehow i think these are 2 different things.

If i cant find it,is there anything i can replace it with, such as oats?Is flaxmeal, actual ground up flaxseeds? As i have a full pack of ground flax in the cupboard. Our terminlogoies are so different,i thought it best to check first.

These sound easy and yummy (at least for dogs). I was wondering about cats too, but it sounds like it works great for both!

I think your cornmeal is our cornstarch. The cornmeal this means is basically corn ground into a gritty powder. I would imagine you could use oats ground into a powder and flaxmeal just fine. I think whole oats wouldn't work as well... but I couldn't tell you for sure.
The flaxmeal I used it just flaxseeds ground into a gritty powder.

You could try your ground flax and like a wheat flour or something like that I would think!
