Um chicken bones are not okay to give a dog. They are to small and are ones of the most hazardous bones for dogs to chew. What made you think to get chicken bones? Go to the butcher and get some big beef bones

Cooked chicken bones splinter , could pose harmful to your pet.
theres a great dog biscuit treat for your dog, try it.
hope this helps. 13 oz. can of dog food, 2 cups whole wheat flour. found this recipe on this forum. 350 degress, for 20 minutes. its not all the directions , but like i said i found it on this forum, under super easy dog biscuits. audkal was the person with the recipe.  [;)]

They're fine to give your dog. Relax! [;)] Of course you know to give them raw and to be very vigilant about watching them - make sure they chew and don't gulp. These will be a meal or part of a meal since they are entirely consumed. A big beef bone like sheprano mentioned is for recreational chewing since they don't consume much of it.

I don't give chicken bones to my dogs, but I think a lot of people on this forum do give UNCOOKED chicken bones to their dogs, with no problem. Maybe some of them can comment?

OMG!! I don't know why so many people are being so negative about giving raw chicken bones, but don't worry! You may want to hold on to the wing for the first couple of times, till the dog gets the idea of chewing it. You're doing a great thing, by feeding your pups raw meat/bones. Don't worry. Good luck!

I planned on giving them raw, will this upset their tummies for the first time.  Also, I have a small tzu, should i give him just one wing for his whole dinner?  What about my 48lb shep?

Oh for goodness sakes, RAW chicken bones are FINE.  Mine get them at least once a week.

My dogs chew on other bones, but have decided that this may be a good thing to try.  Also, those easy bake treats did not do well with my pups.

Sheprano- why did you think chicken bones were bad? My 3 get them at least 2x a week. No harm.

    Oy.....i didn't mean to start a debate!

Cooked chicken bones are NOT Ok to give to your dog. RAW chicken bones ARE. You *may* see some stomach upset, and you may not. I feed one dog totally raw, and four others RMB's every few days - and the intermittent feeders show no sensitivity. ;)

    Good for you!

No No, debates are good, thats how we learn. Sometimes its a matter of prefference or experience but its always good to hear others opinions. It is hard on the computer sometimes because our comments can be taken the wrong way but as long as we are respectful....which some of are guilty of not being, including myself =(
Anywhoo from my experience (not proffesional obviously) it was always said that chicken bones are the easiest to get stuck in a dog's throat so I've just stayed away from them. Beef bones just seem hardier and last longer. Then again I give Rory pig's ears which a lot of people feel are hazardous also so again its just a matter of what you feel is best with your dog. Another reason I don't give Rory chicken bones is because her tummy is super sensitive.
As with all bones and toys keep a eye on your fur baby!

Ok, one last question, so when i take it out of the package, i just give them both one, with the skin and meat?  Uncooked of course.
    • Gold Top Dog
Yes, skin, meat, bone and all. They will probably really enjoy it and beg for more. Maybe start with small pieces and gradually over a few days add a little more in. That way, if they're sensitive, they can adjust slowing to raw meat. Beau had the runs for the first two days, but it went away, and his stools look just like they did when he was eating all dry food.

Someone had mentioned holding it so they will have to chew, very good idea. But even if a wing is gobbled down in one piece, there should be no harm. Beau and Sasha like to eat very quickly.
