How can I get my dog to eat fruits and veggies?

She really does like the canned baby food, I give her whats left of my sons food and she will gobble it up with a bit of kibble but I dont think its becauseof the taste but because she likes for her food to have a bit of "wet stuff" in her kibble. She doesnt really care what it is, chicken broth, yogurt, cottage cheese as long as it smooths her kibble up. Thanks!

About a month ago our grocery store (only one in this little town) had a close out on Gerbers sweet potatoes, green beans and a few the "meat dinners".  Well, I bought every single jar of the sweet potates--like 70 odd, for I think it was 10c  a jar pl;us a couple dozen of the green beas for same price.  i will divide one of the jars up between the 3 dogs and add to breakfast feedin as a treat.

OOO--are all the nutriants still there in the baby food?

They are dated to be sold by jan '07, so i would think so.  But it isn't for nutrition--don't give them enough  (one jar of food for 3 large dogs).  It is just to add a little treat to their breakfast.  I  have no idea why they were close out. Maybe a label change, jar design change, whatever.  I don't buy baby food, so don't know about changes--except I did notice with granddaughter  that there was a plastic seal wrap on some of the jars of Gerber's food.

My wife's daughter and her new husband are vegans. The meal at their wedding was completely vegan. And tasty. I liked it and survived a night with out dead animal. And, btw, they are both healthy and strong in their 30's. She has dogs and I will give you three guesses as to what she feeds them.

there is no reason why a dog wouldn't or shouldn't eat them but it is not really a good source of nutrition..heck if they like them feed them but donl;t ignore the other nutritional items....

Vegan, or raw? Those seem to be the most popular choices, among vegans:)

No, she doesn't feed them vegan or homemade vegan.

Most vegs I know feed some form of raw to their pets.  And I know an awful lot - the dog world is chock full of them.  I'm thinking of becoming fish-only veg, like a friend of mine, but I like lamb oh-so-much.  But vegs are soooo fit and healthy . . .

Anyway, OT.  What was the topic, anyway?  this is another odd thread . . .

Isn't it strange? So many of us refuse to consume flesh, for ourselves, and feed our dogs raw, or at least prepare their meaty food. I find the logic fascinating, LOL. I guess it's just the health benefits. My mom used to tell me I was a walking contradiction, for feeding my dogs fresh meat all the time. I think she's given up...

The way I hear it explained - they aren't against killing animals per se, it's killing/exploiting them to benefit people.  Dogs would normally eat sheep, goat, deer, fowl, rabbit anyway.  If we  domesticate them we have a responsibility to feed them as naturally as possible.  Not to mention make sure the food they eat is humanely raised, etc.

That's the most consistent explanation I've heard, anyway.  Your mileage may vary.

I think you are feeding your dogs species-appropriate food, as best as you see fit to do, regardless of your own diet. My friend, Lee, had a Ball Python Constrictor and he would have to drive two towns away in order to get live mice to feed his lovely snake. The next  closer town would not allow the sale of live mice for snake food. They would only allow the sale of frozen mice (mice-icles?). A snake hunts on smell and heat. And he would never be interested in something that didn't smell alive.

    Hey Ron,

I have a 4 1/2 foot Ball python and he will only eat live, domestic (lab type) rats (and they have to be small ones, even though he's capable of eating large ones) and won't eat "wild" caught mice. He makes pets out of them. I don't know why, it's just some weird thing with him. He also won't eat rats with any color on them other than plain old white ones.
I talked to a Herp expert at our zoo at one time that said, "you have to condition a captive snake to eat dead prey" How the heck do you do that????? He said, "crack it over the head, but not enough to kill it. Just stun it long enough so that it lays there still. Once he gets the idea that his prey will lay still, he will eventually get the idea"
Geeze, crack it over the head? I would just as soon feed it alive so that it can be humanely killed and eaten for heavens sake!

Lee's python was named Sulphur because of black and yellow coloring. He would hide until he shed his old skin and then he would be out and about showing off his bright new shiny colors. I got to feed him a few times. I had never handled snakes until Sulphur and I got to handle him from the time he was a baby, which gave me the time to get used to it. Plus, Lee had reptiles before so I listened to everything he said. I don't think Lee ever bothered with a thawed mice-icle. He started out with pinkies and worked up to adult mice and then, finally, full-grown rats. Fortunately, after Lee passed away, they were able to find a good home for Sulphur, as Lee's widow wants nothing to do with snakes.
