Geeze, crack it over the head? I would just as soon feed it alive so that it can be humanely killed and eaten for heavens sake!
I had to do that to the rats that my son fed his boa constrictor; the pet shop where my son bought Sparky recommended that so the rats wouldn't bite her. My son was too squeamish (like I wasn't?) [:'(] She had a great personality though; very easy going.
