Removed amaranth from Ocean Blue?

    • Gold Top Dog
Well... I actually heard from TO today. They completely ignored my inquiry into the 'disappearing amaranth' mystery and told me they'd give me a refund on the generic bags of Serengeti I can't sell , if I donate them to my local shelter and fax them a receipt.

So.. I replied by asking yet AGAIN for an explaination on the amaranth. Let's see how long it takes me to get a straight answer, if any at all.

At least the shelter will get some good food.

"At least the shelter will get some good food." They're getting the rest of the Ocean Blue I ordered for Jessie, anyway, as soon as I have her switched back to what she was eating before, should take another 3 days.

"A product is only as good as the companies customer service." I don't know how to use the quote thing yet. kennel keeper, I agree with you and am switching Jessie back to Eagle Pack Holistic Select. Their customer service has always been excellent, answering all my questions promptly and with straight answers. For example, I once asked Nutro what percent of the Natural Choice Ultra was meat meal, and their answer was "that is proprietary information." I asked Eagle Pack the same question, and received a reply saying that the Holistic formulas are 40% meat meal the next day. I can't feed Innova like you because Jessie's allergic to chicken, but rotate the Eagle Holistic Fish, Duck, and Lamb. Jessie loves them and does great on them. I was attracted to T.O. because they make several formulas without chicken and their ingredients sound a little better than Eagle Holistic, but IMO their are too many doubts about the companie's practices to trust their food. By the way, your dog is adorable.[:D

Yep...and they have LOTS of cats too.  I think I might donate a case or two of dogfood on my own , I can use the tax write off and would love to help out their dogs .

If I ever get rich, win the lottery , etc.... I'm going to build a huge facility just for stray/unwanted pets where they'll be treated just as if  they were living in my own home... beds, toys, good food, playtime, regular grooming, etc.  It'll be like a doggie daycamp.

I'm beat... have another appt in Jax tomorrow with an ontolaryngologist ( sp ?) I have suspected mastoid disease based on an MRI I  had last month. Wow.. another disorder I can ad to my evergrowing list of problems. ( sheesh ).

    Goodnight

Sharon, I don't know what mastoid disease is, but I hope it's nothing serious. Can you return the generic and mislabeled bags for a refund?
    • Gold Top Dog
Mastoid disease is a disease of the the mastiod sinus cavity of the middle ear. It somehow becomes filled with fluid and then the bone starts to degenerate. The only thing they can do is operate and remove it which entails practically cutting your ear off. My sister had it and had both ears operated on years ago and has worn hearing aids ever since because she's now practically deaf.   I never suspected anything. My ears never even hurt until a few months ago and I thought it was because of a problem I was having w/a bad nerve in a back molar that got infected.  My ears and jaw were killing me , I thought it was from the infection that my ears were aching so bad. Anyways I had an MRI because my neurologist was trying to see why I'd had a couple of mini-strokes a few years back and this showed up on it when the technician /dr did the evaluation.

    Thanks Jessie's mom [;)

Sharon, good luck at the Dr's.  My mother had double mastoidectomy when she was very young. She had terrible ear problems all her life and at the time the implanted steel plates to replace the bone they removed.

I'll be very interested to see if Timberwolf follows through on their promise of a refund. If so, my opinion of them went up a notch.

Best of luck at the Dr.!!

    Yes, best wishes, Sharon!

It's been 9 days since my Timberwolf order - absolutely nothing has happened.
    • Gold Top Dog
It may just show up. My last order showed up just when I was ready to give up.

*But* then I remembered that the shipping confirmation from them (it comes from Quantum View) went to the junk mail folder the first time I ordered. It may very well have the second time also and I missed it.

Randall said once that he thought they only shipped on Wednesdays.

Ok, got the bag of Ocean Blue.

Sidenote: Ordered from Only Natural Pet Store on Friday morning they shipped Fri afternoon, got it today, $12.28 shipping for 33 lbs. Not bad!!

Now I'm in a bind. I can't afford to spend almost $60 on a bag of food and not feed it. It is in the nice foil barrier bag, and it does have a production code and use by date of July 2007 on the back. It has amaranth in the ingredient list, but I posted on Mordanna's board and read on some other boards and she convinced me amaranth is not harmful, although I'd prefer food without it. I don't have any allergy dogs so there shouldn't be any reactions to the food or anything, but at this point I'm just uncomfortable feeding anything by Timberwolf. I thought about returning it (can't really afford that either), but I know plenty of people feed it and have for quite some time with good results. Arrrrrrrrgh! What to do?
    • Gold Top Dog
Kelly, I had ordered the Ocean Blue from the same place you did and mine came in a nice foil bag too with the same date on the back. That was about three weeks ago and then all this stuff has come out recently. I had fed Jessie more than half the bag, so it wasn't as much of a loss for me to switch back to Eagle Holistic, which I can get at a feed store two miles away, at twenty bucks for a sixteen pound bag. I know where you're coming from about the expense. I wouldn't have ordered it in the first place if I hadn't found the Only Natural Pet Store and their shipping rates. It still seemed like a lot of money though. That is a lot of money to lose if you decide not to use the food, and you said you can't afford not to use it. Jessie hasn't had any problems with it other than gaining four  ;pounds because I had figured the calories wrong and she was getting about 520 extra calories a day. As you said, a lot of people have fed it for a long time with good results. I may have over reacted when I switched back to Eagle, but it will be easier to take the extra pounds off Jessie than if I fed her T.O. I think it would be alright for you to feed your dogs the Ocean Blue, and who knows? T.O. may have these issues resolved soon and you may want to continue using their food. By the way, has the new supplement helped Boomer's gas?

Don't know yet, just got it today. Maybe I'm just too suspicious but it came in a container with a old looking, kind of rubbed-off label and the container wasn't sealed or anything, so I hesitated to feed it too. The white spot on the label where the production code should have been was blank as well. Boy, this whole situation sure has me reading labels and looking at packaging a lot more carefully.

Now I'm in another bind with Boomer. He's on the TO Wilderness Elk and it's time to order more. Switching foods again is going to contribute to his stomach problems.

Well I wrote them about it. I need you to send me your info so I can forward it to them and try to find out where your order is.

What are you talking about ? What did you order ?  I just got two huge shipments of food in and the only thing in older bags is 3.3lb bags of Wilderness Elk and Serengeti Herbal. Everything else is in the new foil oxygen barrier bags w/the date stamped on the side if it's the 4lb bags and I think down around the middle of the bag  in the back if it's the 33lb bags.
