Questions about Fish Oil

    • Puppy
Ok, now I have another question, I know that I ran accross a thread discussing it already but can I find it now?  Of course not!  So if I add the fish oil to their food then I should also add vitamin E?  What would the ratio be?

Also, do we all agree that a human supplement is just as good if not better than one developed for pets?  Or should I be using a formula designed sepecifically for animals?

I tried the Derma-something oil in Winston's food, and he wouldn't touch it.  I ended up throwing the entire $30 bottle out.  We switched foods instead.

Cool, thanks all for the input!

I think I'm going to look at Wal-Mart for the human Fish Oil caplets....are they the Wal-Mart store brand ("Equate")?

Thank you so much for all the information! [:D]

I use only natural fish oil that I take myself for my dogs....I get it at a local natural health supply store.  I don't see much point in giving my dogs oil from some nasty fish farm raised animals who probably are glowing with disease and toxins.  Two a day and they just eat them on their own....after all...what dog doesn't like a good taste of fish oil!!   [:D]

Sorry for this stupid question, but what are the benefits of pup/dogs taking fish oil? I'm just curious. Thanks.

OK, I got some fish oils, and some Vit E yesterday from Wal-Mart. It's a brand called "Spring Valley"

    ORIGINAL: jennie_c_d

1000 mg per 30 lbs of healthy dog, 20 lbs of dog with flaky or itchy skin, and 10 lbs of chronically ill dog.

.....I got Fish Oils (1000 mg) I am giving him 3 a day because he's 65 lbs and has flaky skin.....

    ORIGINAL: Edie
Always give VitE when giving Essential Fatty acids.

10iu of E per LB of bodyweight

I got E's (1000 iu) I am giving him 1 a day....I also saw some 400 iu's there but since someone said you can't overdose on Vit E I decided to go with the 1000 (hope that was OK).

Thanks everyone for the input/advice....if I'm doing anything wrong here please tell me, lol. [:D]

that is exactly what kenny gets every morning. a little squirt of peanut butter and he is one happy camper. you will notice a difference after a while. kenny's coat is such much shinier and softer than my parents cocker. i can really tell the difference. plus with PB on it, he htinks he is getting a treat!
