    Questions about Fish Oil

I'm thinking about supplementing my dog's food with Fish Oil but first I was wondering....where do I go about getting fish oil?

Is it better to get fish oil made for humans or one that's made for dogs?

I'll probably be able to think of more questions later, hehe.

I have always used human quality fish oil,it is better regulated and more potent IMO than the ones made for pets. You can find fish oil at any health food shop.

     I  like DermCaps;

I think it's a good quality product and they make different size capsules for different size dogs.

I too swear by [linkhttp://www.grizzlypetproducts.com/salmon_oil/salmon_oil.html]Grizzly Salmon Oil[/link]. The pump dispenser is so convienent, the dogs love the taste, and it's made a huge difference in their coats, not to mention all the other health benefits it's supposed to have.

You want to make sure and get fish body oil, not fish liver oil. Liver oil is very high in vitamins A & D, which are already supplied in commercial kibble. Those vitamins are toxic when fed in excess. Omega 3's (fish body oil) do increase the body's need for vitamin E, I don't know dosages, but I do know it is virtually impossible to overdose vitamin E. Make sure you get a natural vitamin E supplement, the synthetics are not as effective.

Can you order this Grizzly Salmon oil online?  I am in Canada, but would be interested in trying it out now that we are feeding a kibble instead of raw again.

    Thanks all for the info!

I'm thinking about trying out the Grizzly Salmon Oil. morgand, on their site they list a bunch of online places where you can get it:http://www.grizzlypetproducts.com/storelocator/purchase.aspx

Do you think it would help out my dog's dandruff?

I think I'm going to try it out....the only thing that gets me is it's kind of expensive...do you know what site sells it for the least amount of money?

    Thanks y'all!

Yes, it cleared my dog's right up.

I don't know who is cheapest online, I'm able to buy locally, but I like www.onlynaturalpet.com --they have good fast customer service. They recently redid their site though and I haven't been able to get it to work right since. You may have to call them.

Hope it works as well for you!

I use Grizzly here too.  The first time I got it, I ordered from Only Natural, the second time I got it from Clean Run. ([linkhttp://www.cleanrun.com]www.cleanrun.com[/link]

I give both of my dogs human fish oil caplets, with vitamin E to help them absorb it. My dogs love the caplets, and usually will not start to eat their breakfast until i toss them one, like a treat! I just got 1000mg caplets from wal-mart, and they were only like $3

Interesting, how many do you think you would have to feed a dog that's 65 lbs? How many caplets do you get in a bottle?
    • Gold Top Dog
1000 mg per 30 lbs of healthy dog, 20 lbs of dog with flaky or itchy skin, and 10 lbs of chronically ill dog.

There are 60 caplets in my bottle. I always give my 95 pounder and my 50 pounder one caplet...i'm glad i saw Jennie_c_d's post...i'll have to up my dosage! With one caplet i have seen a difference in my GSD's coat though. He is now shiny and silky

My husband, myself, and our 3 goldens all take the same fish oil--get it at WalMart and buy it in super size  bottles (can't recall the amount off hand) as we all use.
