    CET chews?

my vet just recommended some CET chews for my dogs cuz he said that greenies are a little too dangerous, but the chews break down easier and do a much better job of cleaning their mouths. has anyone ever used these or have any thoughts on them? they just look like rawhides to me...

I occasionaly give them to Trixie and have had no problems.  Usually when it gets to a very small piece I take it away.

I really like the CET chews. They seem very effective for my guys's teeth.  They are not terribly agressive chewers or gulpers, so I feel comfortable giving them these. (I dont' use greenies anymore.)

I also give raw chicken wings a few times a week as a mid-day snack too, and I'm sure that helps.

Just bathed, fluff dried, brushed, trimmed, clipped nails, cleaned ears and brushed teeth for my 3 this morning and their teeth looked very white when I was brushing, so something's working.

Of course I'll add here if your dog is a gulper, I'd avoid the CET chews, they look just like those rawhide flips/chips. And the dogs adore them.

With all the "Greenies" contraversy a few months ago, I asked my vet about Greenies and he said he gives his dogs CET chews.  But I got the feeling that they were not much really safe either,,because he said something like "we choose which wars to fight" when comparing one chew thing to another.

    From the package....

Basically they are a rawhide flip chew with enzymes on them which help clean the teeth.  Works great for our dogs, but then I also do chicken wings 2-3 times a week.

Not to get off the subject,,,BUT,,,,I give Bubblegum chicken necks a lot, but I keep reading chicken wings...and they seem so hard and so easy to cause problems,,,such as breaking and hurting the insides of the dog, and God knows what.   I'm really afraid to give them to her.

Oh okay. Can you get em at a place like petsmart? I may try them out...

I buy mine from my Vets.

You could do a search on Google, from what I can see the first couple of sites I checked you have to buy in bulk

I think you can only get them at a vet clinic...we sell them at our's and the dogs just LOVE them.  In my opinion they can be overused though...I don't really like the idea of all that chlorahexadine going into my dogs stomach.  Also a lot of dogs (like mine) will eat them very fast and can even choke on the stuff just like they were eating regular rawhide.  As an OCCASIONAL treat I think they work great!

CET chews were bad news in my house. Both dogs got horrible gas and had the runs after eating them the first time. I waited two weeks and tried again with the same results.

My dogs LOVE them!  That is the only type of rawhide type chew I buy anymore.  I don't think it really helps with their breath that much, but I figure if they are chewing, they might as well be chewing on something that is also cleaning.

I have always gotten them from the vet.  I believe you can buy them at PM but if you can't you can always go to the vet that is inside PM and I bet they will sell them to you.  I have gotten them there before.

I recently got some C.E.T. Hextra Chews at the vet to try. They have chlorhexidine to kill bacteria that causes plaque and he said it only takes 10 minutes of chewing to kill the bacteria. Jessie loves them and one chew lasts her an hour; that's impressive because she doesn't like most rawhides and the only rawhide that lasts anytime with her if she chews them is a compressed one. They're much cheaper at this link than at the vet:

I was giving Jessie soup and marrow bones for her teeth but she recently was very uncomfortable after passing a bowel movement; there were bone chips in it from a marrow bone she had the day before. It was a thick-walled bone and I had checked her often and took the bone away when she began scraping chips off but it still caused her problems. I decided not to give her anymore bones and I think these do a better job; her teeth really do look a lot cleaner after she's chewed one.

Bubby loves a bone also, but they just make me nervous,,,,maybe I will try these...but what size do you suggest for a Dane Janice?
