    dog treats

which is the best kind of commercial/natural/homemade dog treats?

My dog really likes Solid Gold's Cinna-bones and Eagle Pack's Menhaden Holistix. Once I get a bit more time, I'd like to try making some homemade. From what I've read, there's some good recipes on here.

The Solid Gold "Cinna-bones" and "Dragons teeth," Eagle Pack Hollistix, and these little home-made treats they sell at my pet store called "Sammy's...something" that are cheese and garlic (his favorite).

--WOW, I just realized I listed the same two as you schlep! LOL

OMG....I didn't know about that (no more dragons teeth).  Do you know of any other foods/treats that have that in there?

It's an artificial sweetener found in lots of gums, mints, and candies. Dragon's Teeth are the only dog product I've seen it in.

That's why we decided not to carry it; I'm hoping that Solid Gold changes the formula soon. I already know one of the brands we sell is working on taking menadione sodium bisulfate out of their foods, so I do think the manufacturers listen to those concerns and work them out.

Btw, that's awesome that you also use cinnabones and holistix, papillon. [sm=wink2.gif]

Winston's favorites are the "buddy biscuits" from Cloud Star.  They have a ton of flavors and they come in an itty bitty size that is perfect for my puppy.  You can get them at www.cloudstar.com.  He also likes these "chicken chips" that are essentially dehydrated chicken.  They smell like chicken and the ingredients are only chicken. They sell them at Petsmart, I think it's a brand called "Smokehouse" or something to that effect.  They are small round discs in a mustard yellow plastic resealable bag.

Mine love EVO treats and IFEX (Iceland Pure) Snackfish.

Oh - I almost forgot the most coveted treat of all!!!  Dried salmon and makerel!!  No additives, just plain dried fish.

That's what I love about the Snackfish - they're kinda expensive and they really stink but they're just fish - nothing else. And the dogs LOVE them.

SG Lamb jerky and that old favorite, freeze dried liver.  I've won the hearts of many a timid rescue dog with that last one.  [;)]

Honestly my dog goes nuts over any treat so I try to buy healthy ones. I usually buy him Old Mother Hubbard's "Bac 'N' Cheez". Next time I might try some of the "Wellbars" made by Wellness. [:)]
