    thanks Chew!
He didn't have mushy poops on TWO what he had were more frequent, smaller (totaled about the same amount, just more loads) and particulary narrow poops.  I didn't feel that he was emptying is anal glands as well and he has had problems with them.  His SG poops are very firm, wider, and less frequent.
He gets some high quality 'live' yogurt but have never given him prozyme might be worth a try

if you try it and it doesn't work, then maybe you should stick with SG?

We have to go with what works, right?[:D]
And SG is a good food!

I have no problems with the SG but do think that his coat looked better on TWO.

My crew does great on NB Duck and Potato. I add pumpkin to their food everyday, and occassionally (because I only cook occassionally lol), they'll get whatever random meat I'm fixing.
    • Silver
My dogs eat about 1/3 Innova large breed and 2/3 home-made natural diet (according to Dr. Pitcairn's book).

Bubblegum eats Eagle Pack, I switch formulas every week, with all of the Holstic formulas and Natural.   I do add a raw egg every breakfast and lightly cooked meat ( turkey, beef or pork) mixed with veggies to her P.M. dinner and she gets yogurt in every meal.  She gets raw chicken wings every Sunday.

Dyan- What you're feeding is very similar to what I'm going to feed, starting tomorrow.

    Gingerbread:
Morning- 75% Wellness CORE mixed with 25% Wellness super5mix canned.
Evening- 75% Wellness CORE mixed with plain yogurt, then add 25% ground turkey or ground beef with cooked veggies.

Fudge: Everything thing the same except instead of CORE, feed him Wellness Lamb super5mix kibble.

I just found out though that Orijen MIGHT be available in Virginia soon. [:)] *Doing the happy dance!* In that case the kibble would be Orijen (adult for Gingerbread and puppy for Fudge) and the canned would be EVO.

Don't know what you do for veggies..but I sometimes use canned pumkin,,sometimes canned veggies with no salt, but most of the time I used baby food veggies and mix it up after the meat is cooked.

Why would you switch from Wellness Core to the Orijen...I use them both, and mix them along with TWO Ocean Blue. I was just wondering if you find one is superior to the other and why so..
    Thanks

I was going to use peas and carrots this time, boiling them until they're really soft and then cut them up small. But then a lot of people say that they don't get any nutritional benefit from veggies unless they're pureed. Since I don't have a blender, maybe it would be better to just use baby food since that's basically what it is. Thank you for the idea! [:)]

I think Orijen is a little better than CORE, not by much, but enough that I would prefer it. I've always written Orijen off as I food I couldn't feed because of the availability, but now I'm deciding that I really want to FIND a way to get it. Anyway, I like that Orijen has a little more fat at 16% and I like that it comes from chicken fat, not from vegetable sources like canola oil. I think it's more natural for a dog to get fat from animal sources. Plus, I love all the herbs and other botanical ingredients. I wouldn't want to buy all of those things seperately and try balance them all myself. I don't think a dog would find them very palatable that way either. I also like that they make a grain free food that I can feed to my puppy.

Edited to add, I personally wouldn't mix kibbles. It isn't giving them any variety in their diet that way. When you mix them, they're getting the same thing all the time. What I would do is rotate them, feeding a different one every bag.

Thanks for the information..The reason I mix these grain free kibbles is that I try to balance the nutrient numbers...
    Example:
Orijen has between 5.0mg/kg and 7.0mg/kg of Iodine...Wellness Core 2.4mg/kg  and TWO Ocean Blue 2.7mg/kg..,..
Orijen has 40.000 IU/kg of Vitamin A,,,,Wellness Core 24,000 IU/kg  and TWO Ocean Blue 22,000IU/kg..
    Orijen has 1,900 IU/kg of Vitamin D,,, Wellness Core 1,800 IU/kg  and TWO Ocean Blue 1,400 IU/kg..

So by mixing I am lowering some of the numbers from the Orijen, yet still getting quality...

Some of these vitamins and minerals are fat soluable and build up in the system..Doing it this way gives me peace of mind...
I also home cook with hardboiled eggs or chicken or Hamburger or cottage cheese 5 or so nites a week and the kibble in the morning... With the home cooking I hope my buddy is getting the "taste variety"..

    Thanks Luvntzus for caring...

Yeah..... I would still rotate the foods after each bag to give that peace of mind. [;)] It's a subject not everyone agrees on. I'm getting my info from the dog food project. She has some very impressive qualifications, so I trust what she says more than I do my own limited knowledge.

    Second topic on the list:

I don't rotate brands...but formulas.   I have a two big containers that I keep filled with two different formulas.  When one is done we start on the other.  She gets about a week of each. I tried to do every other day...or even one formula for breakfast one for dinner....but we kept forgetting which to do..[:D]
