When I first came to this forum, we used to feed Nutro Large Breed kibble and home cooked. But our GSD had atopy last year, and his skin was quite dry, so we had to switch. A dog park pal told us that GSDs are sensitive to corn, which is in Nutro.
We tried Innova, but the diahrrea was unbeliveable, even though we did the slow transition. We tried Natural Balance, the shedding was horrific on both dogs. We tried Royal Canin Maxi, GSD formula, both dogs did well on that kibble and we fed home cooked daily. Then the pet food recall came about and we had to switch. Tried the Innova, again, with no success. Tried Canidae and with a bit of time and a few loose stools, they made the transition.
Now they get the Canidae All Life Stages kibble and home cooked; Canidae canned, cottage cheese, fish -fresh or canned (salmon, mackerel, sardines) PM feeding. Bedtime treat is plain yogurt, which they love, and it helps control the gas!
