I think Orijen is a little better than CORE, not by much, but enough that I would prefer it. I've always written Orijen off as I food I couldn't feed because of the availability, but now I'm deciding that I really want to FIND a way to get it. Anyway, I like that Orijen has a little more fat at 16% and I like that it comes from chicken fat, not from vegetable sources like canola oil. I think it's more natural for a dog to get fat from animal sources. Plus, I love all the herbs and other botanical ingredients. I wouldn't want to buy all of those things seperately and try balance them all myself. I don't think a dog would find them very palatable that way either. I also like that they make a grain free food that I can feed to my puppy.
Edited to add, I personally wouldn't mix kibbles. It isn't giving them any variety in their diet that way. When you mix them, they're getting the same thing all the time. What I would do is rotate them, feeding a different one every bag.
I got Ella some .88 lbs. bags from [link

They're only $1.99
I got them that small because I decided that I wanted to try it before committing to an entire big bag of the food. Plus, I simply want to just put it in her rotation, not feed it ALL the time.
I got 5 bags because it came out cheaper than buying one of the small bags.
But I think your dogs eat considerably less than Ella does, so you could probably get a couple bags of the .88 lbs. bags and it'll probably last you a while.
I will warn you, though, the regular adult formula is a bigger kibble size. They also have the puppy formula available in that size bag. I think those sizes are perfect for "trying" out a kibble or if you just want a little kibble to this or to that.[

oh, and I have no idea if the puppy size kibble is smaller.
If you want, I can take a piece of T.O.'s Ocean Blue and a piece of Orijen and take a pic so you can get an idea for the difference in kibble size.
Just let me know if you're interested.[
