NEW..Blue Buffalo Recalls ALL Canned Dog And Canned Cat Food

Blue Buffalo just announced another expansion of the recall covering:
    • All Blue brand can dog foods
    • All Spa Select brand can cat foods
    • All Blue Health Bar treats.

The release indicates that rice protein was added without their knowledge to these products. Blue Buffalo attributes this to "tampering” by their contract manufacturer American Nutrition, who was connected to several other recalls on Thursday.

I am almost scared to look at my screen or read the paper or listen to news because it gets worse and worse.  And we are hearing more and more things that do not fit what we have been told.

I know it's getting worse..I have a feeling it's not going to end yet...I had to come back and edit..just to get the subject to fit..geez...[:@]

I just read that also, and dang it, I have 10 cans here.  Their website however does not say anything about a recall.  So who to believe?

DS just got his weekly newsletter from Blue yesterday, late in the day.  No word on further recalls, and they CALLED him on the kitten recall.

ETA....ok, maybe this is true.  Just looked at DS's email and there is a conference call set for later today.......

I'm done with Blue Buffalo. I have a brand new 33lb bag of large breed puppy dry that I was going to donate to the shelter- I switched my dog to raw a couple of weeks ago. Now I think I will trash it.... It may not be recalled now, but it probably will be tomorrow! No need to put those dogs at risk. I was still going to give her the health bar treats, but not anymore...

There's nothing on the website yet but if you call them their recorded message confirms that ALL cans have been recalled.  I think I'm going to be sick - I had just added this to Prancers rotation and she had about 10 cans of various varieties.  Three were still in my pantry (unused since I went to homecooked last week).

You're right...I just called.  Mine only get a little bit on top of the dry, but I can see myself doing some homecooking today.  No more cans of anything!

Sigh. Until I started home cooking a month ago, my dogs got Blue Buffalo canned on top of their kibble every day. Bowie, my cat, was eating BB as well. She's eating table scraps right now while I research raw/home cooked for cats. [&o]

Dang.  I almost bought a week's supply of Blue Buffalo canned at Petsmart on my last visit while I was waiting for my Evanger's to be shipped.  I even had them in my cart.  But I lost my purse so put everything in my cart back on the shelf (found my purse by the collars-I'm so dumb).  Never did go back to pick up the dog food.  All these recalls have really gotten me worried.  I can't feed raw or homecooked so I HAVE to feed kibble/canned.

I have been using about 2 oz of canned food mixed with EP Holistic Senior dry at each meal. I am trying different varieties/brands. I feed my dog twice a day. I just finished the EVO this morning. The can that I used before that was Blue Buffalo Turkey. I just got off of the phone with the vet. Pepper has an appointment tomorrow for blood work. The vet's office said that the symptoms usually occur within three days. She doesn't have diarreah and she is not vomitting. She should be OK, right???

Why would a company add an extra ingredient, wouldn't it make more sense to save the money and leave it out?

If you're up for it... the best home-made diet for cats is actually ground up small prey. You can order whole animals like rats, quail and rabbits (snake food) online, and have them shipped frozen to your door. Then you grind them up in a meat grinder and you have the perfect, home-made, balanced diet for cats.

A holistic vet near here offers this frozen diet as a service to his clients, and I think its the greatest idea ever!

I fed my dog the Blue Buffalo Canned Venison dinner about 3 weeks ago.. It did not agree with her system- she had bad diarrhea- so I stopped feeding it. She seems fine now, but it makes me wonder.. Do you think the place I bought it from will give me a full refund even if I used some of the cans? I think they should... if the dates match the recall dates. Has anyone had experiences with trying to return recalled food?
