Safest canned food?

    • Gold Top Dog
What ever you CAN yourself...Gee I am really afraid to give out any advice to anyone..on what is the safest...Who know what will be recalled next..I am so tried of all this

LOL, I was thinking the same thing.  But it really isn't funny, it is down right pathetic that we have worry and fret like this over food, dry or canned.

The only canned I have right now is By Nature Organics Turkey, Sweet Potato and Pea. I *think* it's ok. But I'm not sure about anything at this point.

I really like that one too, but the only petstore around here that carried it isn't going to anymore. [:(]

    Do you know why?

They said it wasn't selling. I told them it's a shame because it's a really good food! It was just too good to be true to be able to get it right across the street. [&o]

Anyway, I'm going to go with Nature's Variety.

At this point, the only canned I'm using is Evanger's Hunk of Beef.  I'm cooking turkey myself.  I was going to try a pork roast but now not sure if I should.  I'm sticking with NB Fish because Willow is doing really well on it.

And, also because I felt safer sticking to what I was with already knowing what this particular companies issue is.  If I change, I don't know if what I change to will be that companies formula with the problem.

Sandra...We have to have a little laugh..cause other wise I think we all might just cry  you're right its down right Pathetic...I am feeding Innova and praying mine will not be recalled...so far my dogs are healthy thank god!

I'm still using Solid Gold and 95% meat by Wellness.  Mostly Solid Gold.  I bought a sampling of 95% Meats just as the recall was expanding.  And I haven't wanted to buy more yet.

ACCORDING TO THE LABEL (for what that's worth!) .. no glutten of any kind.  Solid Gold says they don't use gluttens, nor imports from China either directly or indirectly.

Considering that the latest NB canned and Blue Buff canned are being recalled because the rice protein concentrate was added *without their knowledge* then how can you trust ANY food, from ANY company ?    What they say and what *really happens* may be two completely different things.

I'm sitting here literally sick to my stomach with a knot in my throat.   And who's to say that even homecooking is safe - they haven't developed a test for melamine in muscle tissue yet, so pork and chicken are "who knows" right now.

Please tell me that this is just a horrible nightmare and that I'll wake up soon

As far as I can piece together, all the brands who are claiming that RPC was added w/o their knowledge are manufactured by American Nutrition.

If this is true, I expect for lawsuits (or one class action lawsuit) to be filed against AN by the various companies affected.  I would think they would do it just to clear their names.

Except that Natural Balance is claiming this about American Nutrition AND Diamond.

And you're right. If these dog food companies had manufacturers adding unknown ingredients to their foods, then there WILL be lawsuits.
We'll have to keep up on any news posted on that because if there are no lawsuits, then you know these dog food companies' claims are lies.

If I'm piecing things together right, Diamond is saying that some of it's products are manufactured by American Nutrition.  So I think it's ;possible that Natural Balance was contracting with Diamond to produce their foods, and Diamond in turn was contracting with American Nutrition.

    Luvntzus,

If they carried it before, then that means that their distributor carries it.  Which means you can get them to order it for you (unless their distributor stops carrying it).  You could ask....my local store will order whatever the distributor carries, even if the store doesn't "stock" it.

as far as I can tell the only two companies that pack all their own canned foods are Merrick and Evangers. Everyone else seems to out-source their canned products to these apparently not very trustworthy packing companies.

I use Merrick and Evangers canned but must admit for the past 3 weeks or so Ive been crockpotting his mix in.  I've been saving $$ that way too.

Merrick. They make and can their own foods, some of their canned foods contain no grains and the ones that do contain grains do not use glutens or protien concentrate.

By Nature is safe too, as it is grain free, but they dont' make their own food. Evangers makes their cans.  Their pouches are pouched in China by the same human stew plant company that pouches Fromm.  They do make their own dry.
