Safest canned food?

    Safest canned food?

I'm not going to rotate canned foods anymore. My thinking is that the more different foods I feed, the greater the chance of feeding a tainted food.

So I'd like to get opinions on what you guys think are the safest canned foods right now. Thank you in advance!!

I'm sticking with Nature's Variety canned for now - no grains.

    I'm there with you!

BUT, this is JUST MY OPINION, but I believe Evanger's is still safe and Addiction Foods, too. I occasionally feed those to Ella for variety's sake.

After learning that American Nutrition may have put rice protein concentrate in the Natural Balance canned food without the company's knowledge,  I was wondering the same thing; which ones would be safe. I would avoid any canned food made by American Nutrition.

    Update on Ingredient Integrity
You may be aware of a recent pet food recall associated with the ingredient “rice protein concentrate.” Please be assured that there is no rice protein concentrate used in any of our Nature#%92s Variety diets (kibble, cans, or raw). Furthermore, rice protein concentrate is NOT used anywhere within the kibble manufacturing facility.

All Nature#%92s Variety Raw Frozen Diets, Canned Diets, and Instinct Kibble Diets are entirely grain-free. Our Prairie Kibble Diets are made with healthy, whole grains (brown rice, barley, oatmeal, and millet) sourced only from the USA.

Nature#%92s Variety is passionate about pet health and well-being. We believe better ingredients make better pet food, which means better overall health and happiness for your beloved pet. Thank you for your continued trust in Nature#%92s Variety and our wholesome, nutritious diets.

The only canned I have right now is By Nature Organics Turkey, Sweet Potato and Pea. I *think* it's ok. But I'm not sure about anything at this point.

Hmmm, Nature's Variety is looking like a good option since it's grain free. It's actually my first choice anyway. I haven't fed it so far because it's more expensive and I'd have to drive about 20 minutes each way to get it. But now it's looking like it's really worth it.

I have organic turkey from Brandon Farms (part of Blue Seal Foods), and some EVO. I feel the same way.

I really like that one too, but the only petstore around here that carried it isn't going to anymore. [:(]

Abady of course!  They have a nice selection of canned, and canned supplement.  Here's an snapshot of what they have to offer in canned. [linkhttp://nycpetsupply.com/home.php?cat=243]http://nycpetsupply.com/home.php?cat=243[/link]  Maybe you can find it locally and beat the shipping cost?

Unless a company has their own plant (which they don't), then I wouldn't trust any of them.  I would crock pot, or make thick soup at home.

I really like Nature's Variety - they are a favorite company of mine.  But, what if they don't know?  What if what happend to Natural Balance and others (about not knowing the ingredients were even in there) really is true (and not just a cover story), then who knows?

Luvntzus, you have a small dog.  For 40 minutes of driving, you could do alot of cooking. Just a thought.

edited:  I was about to rotate chicken into our homecooked, but I'm waiting to see about that.  The hearings from today did say it got into the food supply. They do not know for sure that chickens were fed it, but they were looking into it.  They just don't yet know about if chickens were fed this stuff.  And, they say the pork was limited to certain states, but who would want to chance that?  Nobody.  It was a number of states that got the pig feed.  [:@][:@][:@]

Innova canned and dry are still good right? My new puppy is doing great on it.

They're not on the recall list; they make their own dry food but the canned is made by Menu Foods.
