What foods are left?

You know, when all this started it seemed to be the "lesser" brands that were hit by the first round of recalls.  I at least considered them to be "lesser", despite the inclusion of Hills because to me it's over priced for what it is.  I mean, come on...SavALot?  Grocery store brands?

I think that a lot of us felt pretty smug in feeding the super premiums....and safe.  But as more and more of this has unfolded, I'm feeling less and less safe about what could possibly be safe to feed.

The Blue recall of their canned lines was NOT because contamination was found in them, but rather because the manufacturer was adding something (cheap) that is NOT in the formula and not on the label.  This company opted to NOT sell a product that was anything other than promised.

How can any of these companies say with absolute certainty that their product will not be next?  IF they do every last bit of their manufacturing, maybe they can, but then there is still the question of the ingredients that they buy from others....the milling of the grains for example is very likely NOT done at their own factories.  SO FAR most of the kibbles seem to be ok....but, maybe that's the next round in the recalls.[&o]

I would feed any of these if I absolutely had to, and all of them are premium and non-affected by any recall:
    Castor and Pollux
    Merrick...my dogs love this stuff!
    AvoDerm
    Nature's Recipe

I think AvoDerm and Nature's Recipe are both sold at local petcos or petsmarts...maybe.

My Petco has removed all Castor & Pollux products from the shelves, and put the generic recall notices in their spots. I haven't yet found out why though.

I wouldn't feed Merrick EVER [sm=vomit03.gif] They have way too many QC issues, and I don't agree with their company stance on downed stock in pet food.

I think your Petco either made a mistake.

Oops! That is what I get for watching Grey's Anatomy and posting on the forums at the same time... it's hard to read these things and pay attention the the guy having surgery LOL!

The post should have said (in so many words):  "All food is manufactured in the USA, and we do  not use any of the affected ingredients.  None of our ingredients come from China."

You are correct that we use Lamb from New Zeland and the Oats (some of them) come from Scandanavia.

Oooooh well... glad we got that cleared up!

cporch - I hope your company is on the up and up. I have been telling everyone to go with you guys because of all the recalls and they don`t know what dog food to buy that is safe. I hate to direct everyone to your company if you will get a recall in the days to come. Help me here. Tell me that you at timberwolf will not have a recall on any of your foods. PLEASE

We have no reason to suspect that we will be involved in this, or any recall.  Just last week we sent people out to our manufacturing facility to inspect the process, and verify each and every ingredient being used.  We do these random inspections quite often.

    Thanks for your support!

Orijen shouldn't be affected by the recalls as far as I know. Might be worth looking into if you have access to it.

I am remaining confident that Eagle Pack is safe. They don't use any of the affected ingredients in their canned foods and utilize local sources.

Sometimes it's hard to keep things straight and we accidentally mis-state facts. If left unchecked, it could be understood as a fact, when in reality, it's a fallicy. This is exactly the kind of thing this industry doesn't need right now with all the emotions running so high. It creates ill-will between the consumer and the manufacturer and also makes people uneasy feeding foods when the company (generally speaking) gets caught mis-stating.
Deception and lies are NOT helping our pets, but are creating an enviroment of confusion and frustration among dedicated pet owners who want to feed a healthy, safe food. It seems to me that the companys who's food IS safe would be shouting it from the roof tops, but it does appear that TWO wants to keep their little secrets tightly locked in the closet. I've seen them sneak around on forums pretending to be consumers and asking silly questions to get reactions from others amd when caught, uses the market research card, as an excuse. This does nothing for my confidence in a company no matter how good a product they produce (and I feel TWO has a great product).

Now here's a question. Solid Gold BATM uses potato protein. Obviously that's not a grain, but couldn't it also be contaminated? Why wouldn't someone add melamine to that to make it look like it has more protein? They say it's sourced in Europe, but who's to say companies in Europe and elsewhere don't do this too? I don't feed BATM, just curious what others think of this.

I would say that corporate greed might certainly extend to other countries.  The whole thing is frightening.  And, add to that the FDA is NOT recalling pork products that may have made their way to the human food supply, after having been fed melamine tainted food before slaughter, I'm not touching ham, bacon, etc. and urge others not to buy it until the FDA says it will recall.

there are rumors some chicken feed may have been contaminated too.

Is all kibble high heat injection cooked (I don't think I got that term quite right). Are there any kibbles that use dehydration or other processes instead?

How does this food look to you all?: [linkhttp://www.burns-pet-nutrition.co.uk/dog_food.htm]http://www.burns-pet-nutrition.co.uk/dog_food.htm[/link]

Avo Derm has a baked line that is easy to digest and helps prevent bloat.  It is baked in an electric oven to prevent bubbles from forming in the kibble, which is the problem Wellness had when they baked their food.

Burns is an okay food.  It is heavy in grains.  I usually recommend it for dogs/cats that have health issues, like liver or pancrease failure because it is very low in fat - and protein for that matter.  If you do decide to feed it, feed the mini chunks formula for small breed or puppies, even if your dog is large and not a puppy.

First off it's a post on a forum, not a story on CNN.   Second, he corrected himself.  What's the problem?
