    What foods are left?

With so many companies being involved in the recall, which ones are left? I want to switch from Blue Buffalo ASAP. Even though their dog food isn't involved, I'd rather stay away from any company involved. No Natural Balance, no Royal Canin...and someone recently posted that they found a piece of plastic in their Solid Gold food...*sigh* I haven't wanted to order online, but I am considering it now.

And the one I think I'm going to try: [linkhttp://www.firstmate.com/index.html]FirstMate[/link]

There are more, I'm sure, but these are the ones I immediately thought of.

I feed Canidae and that still seems safe.  Of course, a week ago Royal Canin seemed safe.  I'm also considering going back to Evo.  It's grain free, and from what I can see doesn't have gluten either.

I ran across this list. I don't think these folks are making any of this up or embelishing - and are just reporting what they find.

I love EVO canned but it is made at a Menu plant.
I love Nature Variety raw, it is made inhouse, but other NV foods are made at Menu.

Canidae, Evangers, Flint River Ranch are all made inhouse.

My dogs like the Canidae canned.  Evangers prices range from $1.20 to $3 per can.  So I only tried the chicken cheapo can at $1.20.

I am so torn.  Nutura CEO (EVO) said they are considering building their own plant to process.  I wrote and said please do.  My dogs LOVE LOVE EVO canned, but what if they find out its something else at Menu, not what is already known? And I gave my dogs something bad, knowing what I know?  DH went and bought 3 cases yesterday, I may have to return them for Canidae/Evangers.

I was doble-checking the ingredients on my Canidae Dry and they had this note on their site:

    Industry Can Recall

In light of the unfortunate current pet food recall by other respectable pet food manufacturers, our phone lines and emails are tied up with concerned customers. We want you, our valued customer, to feel secure with the continued use of our products. CANIDAE® Pet Foods in no way is affected by the recall, nor are any of our products produced in any of the recalled production facilities.

It appears from the latest news within our industry that all recalls are from Glutens imported from China, a protein source that is extracted from Wheat or Rice. The wheat or rice is not the issue, but the glutens extracted, stored, and then imported from China. Again, CANIDAE does not use Glutens in any form, and we do not import any ingredients from China or overseas.

CANIDAE Pet Foods also does not produce cuts and gravies, pouches, and does not contain corn, wheat or soybeans in any of our products or formulations, and all ingredients are of US origin, meaning proudly raised and grown in the USA.

Our heartfelt concerns go out to all those affected by the recall.

*Boldface added by me for emphasis

I also feed Innova EVO canned & Wellness dry to my cats and Innova Healthbars for dog treats. Again, no glutens/protein concentrate.

As far as I know Timberwolf Organics is still perfectly fine. That's what I feed, and Max is doing very well.

Avoid any food that contains glutens (wheat gluten, rice gluten, corn gluten) or any grain that says protien concentrate, unless you know they are buying and processing that gluten in the US.  That is the best way.

I work for a pet product distributor.  The low down on this recall is that much of the wheat that was recalled was grown in the US, but processed into a gluten by that company in China where it was infected with melomine("the synthetic protein melamine added by their Chinese producers in order to meet required protein specifications by exporters and importers purchasing such ingredients." (Nature's Logic).  The same with corn gluten.  Most of it is grown in the US, but processed into a gluten in China.

I feel safe feeding Nature's Logic.  It is made by a manufacturer in "Cross Wind Industries" in Kansas.  But they do not use any glutens or any synthetic or overly processed anything.

Purina actually makes the majority of their foods, with the exception of Mighty Dog pouches.  All of their foods are made at different plants owned by Nestle Purina.  They do not use rice gluten in their foods, but they do use corn gluten, however, they purchase and process their corn gluten in the US.  Purina has thoroughly tested all of their foods for melomine.

I freaked out when Joey broke into my sample box and ate a whole bag of Soft and Chewy Buddy Biscuits which are loaded with wheat gluten.  I called Cloud Star.  They explained that they buy and process their wheat gluten in the US.

While i really have my doubts that we can  believe 100% of what aANY company tells us, i am sticking with Purina One senior for my older two goldens, the Purina One weight managment for my younger "Miss Piggy".  Hve been a Purina user for 50 years and never had a problem with it.  of course, there is always a first time.  But until that first time, i am sticking with what i know works for my dogs.

From what I understand, Wellness and Chicken Soup for the Dog Lover's Soul foods are both still okay as well...

Wellness sources rice protein concentrate from "Asia", although they say they do not use the plant or the distributor that has been implicated. I don't for a second believe that this practice is limited to one or two plants in China, so *I* would avoid any Wellness products that contain rice protein concentrate. "Simple Food Solutions, WellBars (Fish and Sweet Potato and Yogurt, Apple and Bananas), and Old Mother Hubbard Puppy Treats"

You scared me for a minute.  I use Wellness canned cat food.

No matter what you are considering,,be on guard right now.
With the fact that they say  they have another company company that imported from China
[linkhttp://www.reuters.com/article/latestCrisis/idUSN23332213]http://www.reuters.com/article/latestCrisis/idUSN23332213[/link], and they are not saying WHO, it seems there will be another recall.
John from Eagle said they use Corn gluten in a few of their products but it is from a company a few miles from them, so they should be safe.  Some of the companies like Canidea are making safe statements on their websites....so they should be okay. I would not just read an ingredient list to be honest. BUT if they have a representative that is making a statement...I would trust it more.
Even though in the back of my mind I am worried about all foods!

Now here's a question. Solid Gold BATM uses potato protein. Obviously that's not a grain, but couldn't it also be contaminated? Why wouldn't someone add melamine to that to make it look like it has more protein? They say it's sourced in Europe, but who's to say companies in Europe and elsewhere don't do this too? I don't feed BATM, just curious what others think of this.

Well we all know that grain / non-meat protein wasn't that great to begin with.  Especially when it is highly processed like glutens.  I'm glad that I stayed away from glutens and processed non meat protiens.

What I am concerned about is bird foods (large parrot pellets), which contain corn gluten.
