What foods are left?

Don't know anything about bird food...but I have read at least two dog/cat food companies claim that the corn glutten they use is from the US.

Blue Buffalo is involved. Kitten food so far.

I am still using Nat. Balance Fish. No other food has been good for Trudy. I also feed fresh foods like salmon and cooked veggies and fresh fruit.

I would stay away from grain for now. Trudy never has had it, they make her itch.

Although I feed home cooked the vast majority of the time one of my dogs loves biscuits and I'm not finding the ambition to make them so I bought some Canidae snap biscuits. Frankly the ingredients look healthier than what I'd make and she's very pleased.

Our dogs are on Canidae Lamb Meal and Rice All Life Stages and so far so good. Stitches has been on it for about a month and maybe two weeks (since the last recall first started) and hasn't had any bad symptoms and for now, Canidae is not on the recall list. I have to admit that I am glad they have plenty left so that I am not starting a new bag of anything and as of right now, Canidae and their Snap Biscuit treats are all I feel comfortable feeding them until the other two companies are named.

Blackwood in South Carolina says they are not affected. It is a local product and they say they get all their ingredients in the US. If you can't find Blackwood, most places have similiar feeds that are produced locally. Sometimes you can be pleasantly surprised in a locally milled product. I personally was amazed to find a local mill that made a food similiar to Bil-Jac, which I had been paying much, much more, for, and they source all their grain products domestically. I do beef it up with meaty bones but I do that with any kibble. And of course carbs are much more vital to my dogs than most companion dogs, so the fact that the Keystone feed is a carb-rich food works very well.

Ryan, I'll let you go in and edit out the comment about checking out your sig.  You're putting a toe over that fine line with that.

Is all kibble high heat injection cooked (I don't think I got that term quite right). Are there any kibbles that use dehydration or other processes instead?

How does this food look to you all?:http://www.burns-pet-nutrition.co.uk/dog_food.htm

I'd say just stay away from glutens anyway. What dog needs it? Not mine, that's for sure.

    Canidae is OK

I will not post any links here, but Flint River Ranch is great. Dogs love it and it is not in any way involved in the recall!! It's at least worth a try.

And the one I think I'm going to try: [linkhttp://www.firstmate.com/index.html]FirstMate[/link]

OK, let's look at the nifty pie-chart advertiser:  [linkhttp://www.firstmate.com/platinum/holisticnew.htm]http://www.firstmate.com/platinum/holisticnew.htm[/link] (bottom right).
See where it shows you 74% chicken protein? RED FLAG.  The deception is that 74% could be 75% moisture which in actuality could make the vegetable protein content higher than meat.  Would appear to advertised as meat based when in reality it is not.  This is the standard game they all play.  Eeewww what's this at the very end of the list?  Spirulina Algae....NICE!  What will they think of next!   I got enough growing in the driveway and some parts of the roof to feed the entire town!  Or is that Moss...I think I got a combination growing out there. Sooner, are you really going to try this stuff?  Was it the news clip video about the recall on the opening page that got ya?
    • Gold Top Dog
No no, that pie chart is saying 74% of the ;protein in the food is from poultry, not that the food is 74% poultry. Big difference. The food is 25% protein, and 74% of that is from poultry.

I don't see the issue with spirulina. It's a super popular human supplement. Ever see those "green food" supps? Lots of spirulina and other algae in those. Algae is the source of marine Omega 3 fatty acids. The fish eat the algae which contains the omega 3.

For those of you who has Triumph food around them, it is good and safe to use, the ingridients are clear of all glutens - see for yourself - the link to their website - list of the ingridients ==>>

Thanks for the concern Charlie, but I'm quite capable of evaluating and choosing a food. I'm have very specific criteria and there are very few options that meet my needs.
