Natural Balance Pulling Venison Dry Dog Formula

    • Gold Top Dog
I feed my dog the Duck and Potato formula (both dogs actually) and they both threw up this weekend.

Mine has been on it and is doing extremely well.

Keep in mind it is the Venison formula that is "affected"....

Ditto this.  The larger recall situation makes for some frightening times but I really think this will turn out to just be a batch of bad venison.

I know it's the Venison version, I'm just surprised that all my animals had issues this weekend and the food is the common ingredient.  It may well be something else, I pray that it is.

I switched to Fish and Potato just to ease my mind.  I didn't know about the Natural Balance recall until this morning.  I thought the throwing up was just coincidental and it may still be so.  I'd rather be safe than sorry.

[:@]Ok now Im getting alittle nervous myself.. I have both my shih tzu's on the duck and potato, in fact I just got it this weekend.. They have been on it before and did ok, but I have tried other foods (Wellness) (Exclusive) mainly for the itchy skin. Nothing has helped so I went back to the natural balance, I'm getting really frustrated on this whole mess.. So as far as anybody knows, the duck and potato is ok?? I did check out the web site and it doesnt have anything on duck and potato.. I thought it was the wheat gluten made by menu foods... Whats the deal????

The Potato & Duck has not been implicated and this seems to be something completely separate from Menu or wheat gluten, possibly a bad batch of venison...

I understand the concern of recalls, but let's not start a frenzy over this because this is NOT the menu foods recall issue.

I feed the duck and potato and my dog is doing EXCELLENT on it (other than she still has large stools).

Apparently it is all the venison food the company makes, wet, dry and treats.  My question is, could the other cans of food they make or other dry foods they make get contaminated from being made in the same place?  I feed duck & potato wet and how do I know that it hasn't been contaminated from being made in the same place?  Do they clean their machinery enough so as not to continate the other foods they make?

I bought a bag of the venison dry after my dog started having extreme diarrhea from a switch to the regular NB from Canidae.  I still have the NB sitting in my cupboard.  Thankfully he wouldn't touch the venison formula so I just threw the bag out (instead of giving it away).  I hope this is just a scare and isn't anything serious, but because of all the other recalls I'm just not sure anymore.

Maybe I am feeling over confident because I don't feed this food....but I look at this whole thing as very scary..BUT we have to remember that they pulled this food on their own,,,from some phone calls to their company from owners saying their pets got ill from this food. Why would they ;pull just this one particular food if there was danger in the others?  I understand why we are afraid, after this thing with Menu kept getting bigger and bigger. And I am NOT really confident because I don't feed this food... I went and bought a bag of Eagle Pack last week and told DH NOT to open it until the final crumb from the other bag that she has been eating out of, is done.  But I think we need to put some faith and trust into the company that we put our faith and trust in when we decided it was good enough for our pet to begin with.

I just read something on the website that is tracking all of the pets that are sick and dying from the Menu recall. They got an article from USA Today,,saying that Natural Balance is thinking its the Rice Protein in the food they are recalling, its the only thing new or different.  See this article!

This makes me wonder what other foods are affected.....

Well, I guess I was sleeping. I didn't see that someone started another thread about what is wrong with the Natural Balance......sorry I posted about the rice protein in this thread.

so in light of the new addition to the recall, which now includes the wet food, should i be concerned with my dog? we haven't fed her any of it in 2 days, and today her stool was fine. my guess is that she just didn't agree with that food.
