Itchmo has confirmed an email from Natural Balance that they are removing two products from sale:

       * Venison and Brown Rice Dry Dog Formula    * Venison and Green Pea Dry Dog Formula

This product does not contain wheat gluten. No deaths or serious illnesses have been reported and no recall warning has been issued. The warning applies only to products sold in the last week according to Natural Balance.

Yikes! Good to see they're being extra careful... hopefully it's just a scare.

I'm assuming they mean Venison & Pea CAT formula, since there isn't a dog one?

I checked their website and there's nothing about recalling some of their food.

That looks like a snip from an e-mail. I'd like to see the whole thing with the original question, or something on NB's site. Products "sold in the last week" isn't exactly a precise recall. Depending on store supply and turnover that could include a huge range of batches and date codes.

I just looked on NB site and saw nothing either..I didn't see a venison and pea dog food ..only cat...I posted it to give you guys the heads up ..I recived it in my mail as an alert

I really do hope this isn't true - it was one of the companies I really trusted !
This stuff just scares the pants off of me - I'll be keeping my eyes on this thread.

I just pulled the Venison and Brown Rice dog food and the Venison and Green Pea cat foods off of the shelves at work today.  I don't know much about it at all, but we are supposed to keep it in the back until we hear more.  My guess would be that they are taking extra precautions due to the recent problems with other companies.  I feed the original formula and will continue to do so.  Maybe it was a bad batch of venison that cause the "gastric upset."

I ALMOST bought a bag of that yesterday as it looks like a really good food and I thought that I'd give Ella a go on a food with brown rice in it but I got the potato and duck formula instead.

THAT's what was missing at Petco tonight.  I was browsing the Natural Balance bags and noticed the shelves weren't very full.  I couldn't put my finger on what was going on.  The vension was missing.  My God I hope they aren't going to have a problem now too.  This is getting absolutely ridiculous.  Can't anyone do things right?

I called NB, and they said a few of their animals got sick eating the recalled foods.  They don't know if it was the food, but they are rcalling them anyway just to make sure taht there is no problem ( unlike menu foods which kept selling the their products 3 weeks after they knew something was wrong)

They said they are working right now to update their web site.

I'm glad they are taking the precaution even though they haven't found anything conclusive.  (More than I can say for Menu, lol)

Well scary. I just bought my first ever bag of Natural Balance yesterday. It's duck, but if they don't know what the problem is, how do they know their other formulas couldn't cause problems as well?
    • Gold Top Dog
Well, now I'm having second thoughts about feeding the original until all of this is cleared up!  I don't know what to feed though.  It has to be something affordable, and something that I can get in this town.  I could get Sensible Choice or Diamond Naturals Lamb and Rice, or Eagle Pack, but that vet is usually not very well stocked.  What is everyone else that is feeding other NB formulas doing?

I will be finishing the NB potato and duck that I am feeding her and then I'm going to be trying Eagle Pack's Holistic Duck and Oatmeal. But that's because I wanted to originally try that formula BEFORE I tried the NB on Ella. Not because of this pulling of the Venison food.
Since I have now found a store within 20 miles of me that sells Eagle Pack, I will be trying it now...er, ELLA will be trying it, that is.

I'll feed NB again, but I'm looking for a smaller stool for now. She's handling the food quite well, so far.
