Natural Balance Pulling Venison Dry Dog Formula

I also want to mention that we should all take it with a grain of salt.  My guess (and I could be wrong) is since all of the recall stuff, people have been freaking out everytime their dog throws up or anything regardless of the food they are on.  I am guessing that a few people have called because their dog had some sort of tummy upset and NB wanted to "take all precautions" so they don't act as if they are ignoring consumer complaints.  Keep in mind no NB foods are involved with Menu Foods, hence my suspicion.

I just checked, Nat. Balance now has the warning posted on their website. I too, was considering buying this but nearly fainted when I saw the price had gone up over the last week. So I got another good food instead, that both my young'uns can eat. I must add that I picked up a sample of the venison and brown rice and the "kids" seemed a bit strange with their appetites this weekend....but they seem to be ok....

This is so impossibly scary !   I'm so glad I belong to this forum - at least I know I'll find out about things like this quickly.  What about all those other folks out there who feed "lesser known" dog and cat foods that don't check the web and forums daily ?  how would they EVER find out that the food they bought recently could have a problem ?
I think its time for me to buy Monica Segals book(s) ....

ETA:   Just came back from Monica Segals website - I should be homecooking very soon.  In the meantime I'm going to "wing it" as best I can from the information I already have available

I am a little scared right now. My Molly has been eating the Potato and Duck for a week or 2 now and this morning started peeing blood. We have a 3:00 vet appointment.
She is acting fine and not throwing up so I am hoping it is just a UTI. I went to the Natural Balnce web site and copied off the warning and will bring it to the vet even though it is a different formula.

Just because NB is not associated with Menu Foods does not mean that this should not be taken seriously.  This is it's own, separate issue--perhaps it has something to do with the venison?

Lord, that's what my dogs eat, potato & duck! Tookey has to have his urine re-checked Wed. anyway, since he's finished up his antibiotics for the bladder infection. Will mention it to them. Haven't noticed any problems. I do wonder about the venison though, because when we tried them on that they had ungodly gas. But then, Gracie ate half of one of DH's deerhide slippers and got awful gas from that, so I just assumed venison was a gassy food??

Ella has been fine on the potato and duck. I'm not going to stop feeding it.
Unless I hear that it's bad.

I just went to PetCo yesterday to buy the NB Duck and Potato and there was only one 33lb bag left.  I couldn't understand why, since there usually well stocked, but now I understand.

Wasn't the initial problem with the Venison and Rice?  I think that the website recommended that you try the Potatoe and Duck as a replacement.

    I'm sticking with Eagle Pack.

The website has been updated, and now says this, "...Although the problems seem to be focused on one particular lot,..."

So it would seem that this really is a problem completely unrelated to Menu.

I have a gambling boat friend who owns a ranch about 75 miles out of Corpus.  It is not really a working ranch, but he does have deer leases and does do quail hunts. I wish I had gotten the whole story, so it is a bit 'holey". One night last week someone asked him when he would be back and he mentioned he had to transport some deer to some ranch near Houston.  I musta had a stunned looked because the guy with him said 'Oh, he raises deer".  I asked if he sold them to like dog food makers, etc and he said no, it was against the law in Texas to sell deer meat. Can't even get a license to do it.  The deer he "raises'  are the ones for the deer lease.  Seems to me it is 6 of one and half a dozen of another.  the Hunters pay to hunt, they kill a deer and then eat the meat.  To me that is paying for the meat.  Wonder if that strange law applies to other states?

Nat. Balance does not use deer meat in the US. It is from New Zealand because there is no wasting disease there.

Someone on another forum I read has 3 dogs that were on this food.   They are all in some form of kidney failure...   Two were noticably sick - vomitting, one has no symptoms yet...  The last couple of days she had been posting about them being sick and not being able to figure out what was going on..   They didn't think it was the food at first since the third dog didn't have any symptoms..  Very scary.

I'm sure there will be many.  I don't want to be a cynical &#(&*, but there are many people who like to stir things up, and I honestly think this is coincidental.  Like with the Menu foods issues, there are many people trying to pin their dog's pre-existing conditions on the food when it may not be the case.  Age of the animals in question also needs to be analyzed.  I also know 2 people who I spoke with today who have fed the food for over a year and have had no problems.  "He said, she said"

I dont see anything about this on the NB website.  Is it just me or can everyone else read about it on the site?
I was thinking about trying Natural Balance, but now I think I will stick with Eagle Pack too.
