Wait Diamond makes NB and solid gold?

Yes, but they're not made at the Gaston plant, which is where the food was made that caused the deaths and illnesses about a year ago.

    Solid Gold made by Diamond ; [linkhttp://forum.dog.com/asp/tm.asp?m=28428&mpage=1&key=diamond%2Cnatural%2Cbalance澝]http://forum.dog.com/asp/tm.asp?m=28428&mpage=1&key=diamond%2Cnatural%2Cbalance澝[/link];

    Thank you for your inquiry,
Diamond makes our food in their Meta, MO and Lathrop, CA plants, not in the
South Carolina plant where the Aflatoxin issue happened. They manufacture to
our specifications and quality standards and the food is tested thoroughly
before and after processing to ensure quality and safety.
The food is tested before and after manufacture by Diamond and by Solid Gold
    independently.
Many dog food companies will employ a third party to manufacture their food
as it is cost prohibitive for small companies such as ours to own and
    operate a mill.

    Best regards,
    Solid Gold

    Natural Balance;  [linkhttp://forum.dog.com/asp/tm.asp?m=29314&mpage=1&key=diamond%2Cnatural%2Cbalance犂]http://forum.dog.com/asp/tm.asp?m=29314&mpage=1&key=diamond%2Cnatural%2Cbalance犂[/link]

Please know that the Natural Balance Dry formulas are co-packed at a Diamond facility in California. This means that Natural Balance uses their machinery to manufacture our OWN formulas. The problem that you are referring to happened in South Carolina and NOT in California, which is a seperate facility. Also, Natural Balance has it's own quality control representation that test every ingredient, batch, etc (start to finish of production). Every batch is also tested BEFORE it ever leaves our warehouse for distribution. It is extremely important to Natural Balance that we provide the best quality of food that is not only completely balanced, but 100% safe for our fellow companions. If you have any further questions please feel free to contact me via email or phone.

    Sincerely,

    Jennifer Freeman, B. S.

My ;point was that even super premium foods aren't 100% safe, especially since some of them don't own their own plant.

As far as I know DIAMOND has nothing to do with this recall. And they have a section on their website talking about the safety standards that they have in place:
    141 Ingredient Tests.
    10 Final Product Checks.
    Zero Compromises.
Here's what goes into every Diamond product:
    • Each of our products undergoes a rigorous quality control process prior to shipment, including 141 ingredient tests and 10 final product quality and safety checks.
    • Diamond uses only the highest-quality ingredients.
    • Every Diamond Pet Foods product is Precision Formulated™ for content, quality, consistency and uniformity.
    • Diamond is audited regularly by a highly respected independent laboratory for food safety, quality and palatability.
    • We only sell products that we would be proud to feed to our own pets.

Purina however DOES have a product being recalled. This is off of their website:

As a precautionary measure Nestlé Purina PetCare Company is voluntarily withdrawing its 5.3 ounce Mighty Dog® brand pouch products that were produced by Menu Foods, Inc. from December 3, 2006 through March 14, 2007.

I never use canned foods but two weeks ago bought some mighty dog which is purina out of desperation since my Jax hadn't eaten or taken his medication in two days.  I thought oh a small teaspoon full mixed wouldn't hurt.  I put my dog down today for kidney failure.   I doubt this is purina since it seems to be more of the store brands but it sure freaked me out reading the story since his problems starting with vomiting. If I find out that they made food for purina I might have a heartattack since this was so unexpected.

[:(] I am so sorry for your loss!  My thoughts are with you

This was on the Iams site,,,so those numbers that are recalled must be the same on all the brands.

There is a HUGE list of Ol Roy foods as well (and I believe it included the cans as well) but when I was at wally worldl, the associate said it was only the pouches and they had already pulled them. There were customers buying the cans and when I said something about the recall to the customers, they started putting them back and the associate said "It's ONLY the pouches, the cans AREN'T on the list".

    It really ticked me off!

It didn't look like they had pulled ANY Ol Roy products from our shelves. They had pulled the individual Mighty Dog pouches, but there were bulk packs that were still there. I was hoping those products weren't distributed in Oklahoma, but they were doing interviews at Petsmart on the news tonight and their shelves are bare.

One thing I find interesting when situations like this arise is it is one way to tell who makes the foods. Even companies like Nutro, who make their own dry food, don't make their own canned.

Susan, I am so so sorry for your loss. Run free Jax [sm=angel.gif]

Yes, daisyprincess, the only thing being recalled is wet food.

I have been trying to figure out what exactly is wrong with the products that is causing renal failure...I have been trying to contact some people but it's the weekend so I haven't been successful yet.

I actually have some of one of the recalled brands in my pantry, Hill Country Fare.  I use it to make the meatballs i put most of the joint sups, vitamins and any meds in.  It is the store brand of THE store in this area, the ONLY store outside of the super Walmarts.  When we first moved down here in '88, Corpus was loaded with HEB's, one Albertsons, and one Feudo's.  HEB ran them all off.  We lived in Portlant for 2 years til we bought our house over here, and there was a small Feudo's there, as well as a large HEB.  The Feudo's closed down.  There is an HEB in our town,   I like some of the HCF oroiducts better than say Del Monte or whatever, some I don't like at all.

But the canned dog food was the perfect texture for making the little tiny meatbalss.  Guess what?  Tonight I made some mashed potaotes sans the salt and butter and they had "tater balls" with the sups in them.  The canned food is GONE and I will have to find something else tomorrow.

Edited to say that I'm done being a snark.
