I am not recommending you do this but I have to agree with tzu_mom that we can administer too many meds. I ended up stopping all meds for Monty. Some of the side effects of the meds made him worse. Some made him not have an appetite, others made him feel

What med's was monty on at the time? Very curious....

Monty was on metronidazole, baytril, and two others - one began with a "c" and I can't remember the other for the life of me. Two he didn't need since the vet prescribed the meds before his test results came back. One the results were negative for whatever bacteria they were testing for I wanted to take him off. The vet argued a little but the vet also had no answer to the question: "If he doesn't have the bacteria these antibiotics are for, why would he take them. I sure wouldn't take meds for something I didn't have." I stopped immediately.

Regarding the lavender bath stuff - I drink lavender tea when I have an upset stomach or a nervous stomach - it does work. I subscribe to Whole Dog Journal and based on an article in there, I soak Monty's butt in lavender and chamomile tea for his anal gland issues. Supposed to stimulate them so he can empty them. It does work. I don't know if a dog can eat/drink the stuff, but I'd research it. Who knows. Anything that helps.

Good luck with the surgery today! All paws are crossed.

    What a day....

I will start with Louie first since that is what this post is about.... he ate at noon. Guess what I put on it? a/d Science diet... Have you guys ever heard of this? Its for very sick dogs and cats that won't eat. Im not sure Im doing the right thing but he liked it. I put it on the RC. I didn't do much... I added water water and then a tablespoon... and he ate....

    Now for my morning...

This morning when exceptionally!!! I was up early... Mike exercised the dogs...etc... no traffic.. time to stop for coffee and at the clinic at 8:30............ I thought MAN I must be living right OKAY NOW HERE I GO!! We got called to a room at 9:40 yes you are reading this time right....I didn't see the Dr. till 10:00. I kept my cool for Matties sake cause she was good as gold and not nervous. I just read the paper and kept cool. Then Dr. Layton comes in completely frustrated and trying to hide how frazzled she is by how they over booked her...... RED FLAG..........we did the consultation and then she said... Iv got 6 surgeries before Mattie and if an ER comes in Im the only surgeon here so I would have to do them and if I can't get to her I will have to call you to come pick her at the end of the day! I looked at her and said.... NO....we will schedule on another day cause he has gone without food and water and IM not going to have her sit in a waiting area till 4 am to see if she gets done or not and this surgery is tricky. Dr. Layton agreed and now Mattie is down for Tues. I wasn't about to leave Mattie in an environment of chaos this morning. Dr. Layton did agree the anal glands need to come out and we discussed all the risk. But Im still so disillusioned by how many cases they handle a day. This clinic is listed one out of 10 as the best in the US. But after last week and this morning..... a person wonders :( Has anyone noticed our world today is nothing but rush rush rush and way over bookings? I see this with human Doctors but its getting nuts now at this specialty clinic. Last week I had to wait 40 mins to see Dr. Dennis. Its very disheartening. I was wore slick and didn't get home till noon. On another note.. .FLEA's are out... I saw one on Louie yesterday and I got it in my hand and it jumped out... When Dr. Layton was looking at Mattie she had one on her neck!!! She grabbed it and put it in a bottle of alcohol. So I came home and flea treated everyone!!!
Well Im off to eat Mexican food..... :) that will sooth my nerves

Man, I'd need a pitcher of margaritas after the day you had [:-].  I don't blame you for backing out of the surgery for now.  I went thru something similar when Sassy was scheduled for her biopsy.  I got there and they were jammed up.  They told me to just leave her and they'd do the biopsy when they could fit it in between patients but it might be later in the day.  I said "no, I'm not going to have her just hanging out until it can be done".  I offered to bring her back at a better time and the tech went to check with the vet.  She came back and said "you know what?  We'll just do it right now" and they did.  My derm vet moved out of the chaotic clinic into her own building (and decorated it better than my house [:)]), and now the atmosphere is like some spa resort.  Then again, with the $$ I've spent, I'm not surprised.

Anyway, I hope things are much calmer when you go back next week.  If not, and the surgeries not urgent, I'd tell them your concerns and ask for a specific time when they can concentrate on the surgery without any distractions.

    Hey Cath...

Im exhausted tonight...Its been a stressful week with Louie not eating and now this with Mattie. Her anal glands need to come out.... Im calling Monday to find out details on what time her surgery will be and then express my concerns then. This is supposed to be a special care place.... but today I don't feel that way.... Listen I should own a wing there by now Iv always taken my Rescues there for.. Heart surgery... liver shunt surgery....and I had a Rescue Westie that was attacked by a pitbull and he had to have his leg fixed with a plate a screws and had a shattered pelvis but in reality your just a number except the girls at the front desk know me well... they seem to remember... :) Oh well... for some reason it just wasn't meant to be....

I so want to have it done at the clinic cause Dr. Layton is a soft tissue surgeon and she is good.....Plus Mattie would have 24 hour care. At my Vets Mattie would have to come home cause nobody is there at night. :(

On the flip side I went next door to the allergy clinic were Alley is seen and they all but roll out the red carpet for me when they see me coming. I always make sure I treat them good at Christmas :)

After today I should go take Lavender soak and put Mattie in there with me and fix Louie at cup of Lavender water... LOL

I was going to add about my lavender bath water that Louie loves to drink cause everyone was commenting on him drinking that and when I got upstairs I looked at the container and Dead sea salts and regular sea salts on in them also I wonder if this means a vacation to the beach :) After this week Im ready to take them all to a place of healing waters :)

I just wanted to mention that you could try to feed him from a new frisbee if you haven't tried that yet.  Willow was doing that for awhile.

Oh, you so did the right thing by not staying.  Maybe they have someone new working at the desk and just messed things up.  I'm so glad Louie is eating again.  I wonder about adding some water to his kibble and taking up his regular bowl for about an hour.  If he is drinking that much water, I think it would be better for him to not drink awhole lot right after eating kibble.

Yeah, the wait at offices really can wear you out.  You found fleas - my allergy girl picked up a tick last Tuesday morning, and had a rash on her by Thursday evening.  I thought it was a continuation of her wheat challenge reaction.  The rash was bright red Friday morning, and that's when I found the tick.  So, she is on antibiotics. I had allowed them into the ditch to potty in an area I knew to have ticks, but didn't think they would be there after the recent freezing spells.  I guess unless you live far, far north, they can be around anytime of year.

    Here's to a relaxing weekend........

When you make an apt at the clinic you talk to the surgical nurse... so its her fault... nobody new working....just over booking on there part. I was up at 6 am so I could get everything taken care of here and get here there...  VERY FRUSTRATING to say the least.. I was tired and so was Mattie. I did get to see two large dogs come in with their owner.......Not sure the breed but they were blood doners that came into the clinic...pretty cool :)

As for Louie IM still really worried about how he is acting.. :( I know its the large amount of pred.... We have a doggie room for our fur kids to sleep in at night and he peed a lake in there lastnight so IM trying to figure out something that he can pee on ... an old rug or I was thinking of getting a plant and put it in a large tray area....I don't know.. Poor guy.....

As for ticks... I HATE TICKS.... we have alot of deer around here and my guys get ticks alot....drives me crazy. I had to put Max on an antibotic once cause he got all red and infected from a tick once also...
