Kirkland (costco) dog food question

you have already posted all pertinent information, i was just curious if there were any published reviews.  (except did you post how they proved "organic-ness") actually, more importantly to me, i wanted to see if i could find kirkland's mission statements and human resources policies, any information about enviornmental impact, animal testing, etc.  i know kirkland is a big company that makes more than just organic dog food, and before i go spending thousands of dollars in my lifetime supporting them, i want to make sure i agree with their business ethics.

by the way, there's a pic in the beginning of the post of your dog sniffing the bag--- SOOOOOO cute.

But Kirkland themselves doesn't make the dog food - Diamond does.  I'm sure you can find the information you want from them, perhaps?

I don't think Kirklands makes ANY of their products - just like any store brand they buy generics from other companies - like ConAgra made both peter pan peanut butter AND walmart great value brand.  That's what this is, a name-brand company making a generic for a store.

Yeah anything that even sounds like a bag rattling , she's there instantly... As far as Kirkland goes, I don't know if they make anything for their own brand or not, however, anything I've tried with the Kirkland brand written on it has been good (peoplefoodwise)

i'm going to check costco out this week; it's not that far.  the only thing is; i'm wierded out by a seeming absense of info on this brand beyond word of mouth.  i checked the diamond website and found only "natural" foods- nothing claiming to be organic, and absolutely no reference to kirkland anywhere.   of course, i've seen the pictures with my very own eyes, so i know they exist.  just strange.

having said that, the diamond website is pretty nice and fairly informative about the diamond labeled products.  i also noticed that the locations who carry diamond brand food here in TX are places that i would definitely shop, so that's good, too.

if you are seeing satisfactory results in feeding this food, i'll probably go ahead and try it.  i plan to mix it anyway, so i guess it's not as big a deal as i'm making it.

thanks for the interesting thread, and maybe thanks for saving me some money!

well I just got past the mixing phase and she's on the Kirkland 100% now, so we'll see how it goes.. I suppose you could probably just call Costco's main offices or something and get more information on the dog food from them

Well Star has been on the Kirkland now for almost a month and unfortunately she really hates the taste.  I bought a 40 lb bag and it's getting really tough to get through it, not even close to finished yet.

On the plus side, she has had next to no gas on the food, poops are normal and she acts normal.

Now that I can't mix canned food anymore because of this recall thing, it's going to be that much more difficult to get her to eat this stuff.

That said, the ingredients list in the food is really good and it's a good food overall; she just doesn't like it =(

Does anyone by any chance have an ingredients list for the Costco organic dog food? If I recall it's a 25 lb bag for $19 or something like that.  I'm wondering if she would like that formula better or not...

I know everyone's leary of EVERYTHING for now, but we feed Sammy the Kirkland's canned, it's not the chunks in gravy style but rather the pastey-mush-solid mash style [:D]  Neither flavor (chicken/lamb) contain any wheat products.  Everyone on here says that food is made by diamond, but I'm not sure how to tell since neither the bag nor canned say that, so I just believe them.... guess it would be nice if someone shared how they know that and if it's the canned along with the dry.

Or put things like yogurt, peanut butter, a small bit of (real) pumpkin ocassionally, cottage cheese, regular sliced cheese, add some water, add some broth, there are TONS of things you can try to at least get through this bag.  Don't add it every single time, or if Star "begs" for it - let it be on your terms and you won't turn her into a picky dog who only eats when there is something extra.

Sorry it didn't work out for you...rather, her.

Well I've got 30 lbs of the 40 lb bag left so I am just going to give it away to someone or a rescue group and go back to either Canidae, Authority Harvest Baked, or maybe try that Chicken Soup For The Pet Lover's Soul ...It's gotten to the point where she is just scared of feeding time now with this food

Has anyone used this tool before?  [linkhttp://balanceit.com/adevaluator/p01_index.php]http://balanceit.com/adevaluator/p01_index.php[/link]

i did the abridged diet evaluator , compared Kirland to California Natural and Kirkland had a page of potential deficent nutrients whereas California Natual only had 2 ingrediants.   Just curious.  I've used Kirkland canned to supplement with dry.

went to the page don't understand how to use this tool?
    edit:
Oh ok, I figured it out... I'm not even sure what all this means

Glad you figured it out, i was going to reply back but I had to work for a minute.  I don't know what it means either but I'm not as knowledgeable about dog nutrition as most of the people on this site.
