    Kirkland (costco) dog food question

I was recently in Costco and noticed they carried an organic dog food of their own brand.  I came home and did some research and read good things and bad things about the food but the posts were from quite a while back.  I looked at the ingredients list on the organic one and everything looked pretty darn good.

If there was some kind of problem with kirkland food, has it been fixed or what was the final outcome? If I recall, a big bag was only around $18 ...

I actually picked up a  bag of this yesterday and am currently feeding it....I'll let you know how it goes over here.
Think it was a part of the Diamond food thing...

Oh I see, so Diamond isn't making the food for Costco's brand anymore? Did you buy the organic one?

Somone posted the ingredients on another forum and they looked pretty good considering the price.  They were certainly much better than the dog junkfoods that are usually sold in Supermarkets.

Dax I dunno the status of the plants and if Diamond is still in there. Wouldn't matter to me really if the issue has now been addressed...given the recent spinach and peanut butter things...crap happens. [;)]

    Yes the Organic one.
The ingredient list was pretty good as I recall...and I sure cannot complain about the cost!

The food has VERY high quality ingredients, its not even comparible to super market foods.

I feed the girls Kirkland and they love it. It comes in 50lb bags for 18 dollars. Compare that to Pedigree[:'(] which is 22 dollars for a 52lb bag!

Oh ok, good to hear; I'll pick up a big of it today and see how she does on it... The last two times I bought the Authority Harvest Baked from Petsmart and she did fine on that; but now I'm a costco member and that food looked good too so I figure why not try it out =)

I buy the canned Kirkland's for Sammy all the time, and we are thinking of rotating with the kibble... I feed Canidae now, but although it's just dandy I have nothing to compare it to other than Iams which Sammy was on for his first month or two with us (fed it at the shelter and I didn't want to  switch right away) - if he gets worse coat or something, I know canidae is good, if he stays the same then I can feed it with no problems, and if he *gasp* gets better on Kirklands, well then, I know where to stay.  I can't afford things like Innova or TWO for long periods of time.....

I really love the ingredients and if I'm not mistaken, doesn't it come in two flavors like the canned?  Chicken and lamb?  I'm all for the switch once in a while.

I just bought the Kirkland food, it' was $17.50 for 40 pounds.  They also have an organic that is $18.99 for 25 pounds.  I didn't get the organic, although it's a really good price.  Dick Van Patten's organic is something like $50 for not such a big bag.  I'll take a picture of the ingredient list and post it on here soon.  And yes there are two varieties, Chicken or Lamb

That's a REALLY good price for an organic food. WOW!

Yeah it is cheap for organic; maybe I'll try it next time.  Anyways, here are the pictures I just took so you can see the ingredients in this particular food. I opened the bag and fed her a few and she ate them up, but we'll see what happen when feeding time comes!

That looks really good, especially for the price. I'd like to see what the organic ingredients are, but I can't find them online. They aren't listed under the dog food project's organic foods.

Maybe I'll remember to bring my camera with me to Costco next time to take a picture of the organic ingredients hehe
I read them briefly and I think the top two were organic chicken and organic rice, but on the back of the package it said "certified organic by Oregon Tilth"  I googled it and here is their website:http://www.tilth.org/
Maybe you can contact them and find out about the Kirkland organic food..?

That's a good idea. I have a friend who would probably like to use that food, but I want a list to show her. She has two GSDs on mostly raw, and has been looking for a quality, inexpensive kibble to supplement with on days that they need something extra at night. She'd LOVE to feed organic.

Wow, the ingredients in the Kirkland's adult food look awesome! Even better than Canidae if you ask me. [;)]
