Kirkland (costco) dog food question

What, no complaints about sugary beet pulp, salt, non-named fish meal, or egg product? Geez, this forum has lost its bite! [:D]

Joking aside, looks like a pretty good food to me, especially at that price! The quality control issues are scary, though... but all other things considered, seems like it might be a good choice.

Even more reason to love costco, it's impossible for me to get out of there spending less then a million dollars!

If there was any issue with quality some time ago, I'm sure it has been addressed; Costco is huge and I buy their Kirkland brand people food all the time and it's great... With the amount of business they do, I'm sure they sell a lot of this dog food...

From my understanding, beet pulp isn't sugary- the sugar is removed and just the pulp is used in dog food. I actually like it as an ingredient. It's a prebiotic and aids in digestive health. I don't have a problem with fish meal or egg product either. [:)]

The quality issue had nothing to do with Costco. Diamond makes the Kirkland food for Costco and they had an issue that killed a bunch of dogs. Not Kirkland, but the Diamond brand. The issue was human error in that they weren't checking incoming shipments of ingredients properly and allowed moldy corn into the food. Many people quit buying anything made by Diamond.

Ohhhh I see...When was the modly corn issue happening?

Hi I've been feeding Bog Kirkland for about 9 months. The contents seem good ie no corn etc. The groomer and vet both say its good, much better then that  Pedigree he was on [previous owner]. I haven't noticed a change in drinking. Coat much softer shinier.

Just wanted to add: The lamb and rice formula is actually a tad bit better than the chicken and rice!

my god-  that kirkland food is less than HALF the price of innova!!!  i'd like it if you re-posted after feeding this for a while and let me know how it goes.  i really like innova, but the price has always been a problem for me.  i might rationalize a costco membership for this.   as you can see, rosie is interested, too.

You'll need to look up the kcal/cup to see how much cheaper it actually IS.

i feel guilty at even mentioning i might be inclined to switch based on price.  please understand that my dogs eat better than i do, and in order to afford a high quality food, i make sacrifices in other areas of my own life.  i'm mainly interested in mixing them as a way to stretch out the innova.

Of course! If you find something that works for them, and costs less, by all means.... I'm constantly buying things on sale, in bulk, etc, to lower the price of my dogs' food. It's a necessity[:D]

I was just saying, check out the caloric density of it, because it could end up costing you more.
