That's strange, I thought that Caffeic acid is a carcinogen inhibitor...

Just depends what studies you beleive, just like with any ingredient. The same can also be said about BHT and BHA, again you can dig up dirt about any ingredient, that is my point.

The carcinogenic potential of caffeic acid, sesamol and catechol was examined in male and female F344 rats and B6C3F1 mice, groups of 30 animals being treated with diets containing 2% caffeic acid, 2% sesamol or 0.8% catechol for 104 weeks (rats) or 96 weeks (mice). Histological examination revealed that caffeic acid induced forestomach squamous cell carcinoma in 57% (P less than 0.001 vs. controls) and 50% (P less than 0.001) of male and female rats, respectively, whereas sesamol was associated with squamous cell carcinoma at incidences of 31% (P less than 0.001) in male rats, and 38% (P less than 0.001) and 17% (P less than 0.05) in male and female mice, respectively. Catechol induced glandular stomach adenocarcinomas in 54% (P less than 0.001) and 43% (P less than 0.001) of male and female rats, respectively. The results thus clearly demonstrated that all three antioxidants are carcinogenic in rodent stomach epithelia.

This is what really surpises me when I am on a dog food forum, and a few people start defending the use of the most common junk ingredients that the supermarket dog food manufacturers place in their canine junkfood products that many people feed their dogs. It is similar to discussions that I had in the mid 70's when I started buying food for myself and my pets at health food stores, and people I knew were telling me that McDonalds and Burger king and Kraft Macaroni and cheese were just as good an alot cheaper than what I was eating.  Well we all know  today that almost all fast foods are total garbage, and the supermarket petfoods are similar in nutritional value.  Most dogs eat Purina, Beneful, and similar diets filled with corn, grains, fillers, chemicals, rendered products, etc, etc..  And nobody seems to make the connection with what their dog is eating and the sky high Canine Cancer rate that dogs suffer from.  Fifty percent of the dogs today will come down with cancer.  How about Canine diabetes, another indicator of poor nutrition,  or arthritis,  the list goes on and on. It is disturbing to me to see people load up their $40,000 SUVs with  the cheapest dogfood they can get their hands on, full of ingredients that aren't worth a hoot, and then they wonder why their dog dies when it is 7 years old from cancer.

There is so much good info on the internet for someone that wants to do the research on dog food, and there is no excuse as far as I am concerned , for anyone  feeding their  dog awful food made up of cheap and sometimes toxic  junk. Arguing about this bad ingredient and that bad ingredient , is OK,  is to me like arguing that saturated fats, and trans fats, and refined grains, and tons of sugar and salt  are also OK. These are  ridiculous arguments, with the facts as we know them today. But, I guess there are still people that  think serving their family a meal of Whoppers, a large fries,  and Coke, is a good thing.

I prefer the true scientific sites run by the real independent experts in the field,  this site is run by Certified Veterinary Nutritionists who publish the academic nutritition text books used in academia and they competeley disagree with most of the nutrition information found on most dog forums.

Have said it before, will say it again.  My hubby hauls hazardous materials, names i can't even begin to pronounce or spell.  And many of them are delivered to food processing plants...food we eat.. he has often said he bets most people have no idea of the chemicals that are in their food.

One time he called and said he was hauling "miracle growth" and I saidYou mean miracle Grow that is used on flowers' and he said it was product the drivers called miracle growth and it was delivered to a plant making chicken feed and it made day old baby chicks turn into full grown chickens  in about 1/3 the time of normal growth.  Now just where do you suppose those chickens were used?  Were they put in the super markets for us to eat, were they sold to resturant supply companies, were they sent to companies that make dog food?  Is a very good chance either you or your dog ended up eating one of those "miracle growth' chickens.

That is why I buy organic products whenever possible

There was a post here a while back , an article that said the organic food may not be what you expect because the farmers growing it had been caught using stuff that should not be used to grow organic stuff.  I think it was Dvet that posted it.  Unless we grow it ourselves, I don't think we can every truly know how it was grown.

Oh, on the subject, you should see my flower beds in the spring after i bury fish remains in them in the fall.  We used fish remains, kitchen scraps and cow manure in our veggie garden many years ago when we had one, and had great food.
