I like them both a lot. First one, because of the lack of synthetic supplements. Second, because of the lack of grains. I don't think one is better or worse. I think they're both great for different reasons. I wrote to the first company and asked for samples, because I can't find it locally, buying small bags on the internet is not at all cost-efficient, and I don't want to buy a big bag if my dog hates it. I'm avoiding the second one at the moment until I figure out if Cherokee has an issue with turkey, or until I decide the amount of turkey in it is so small that it probably doesn't matter.

If I didn't suspect Cherokee had food allergies, I would keep 5-6 foods (just because that's the number of foods I really really like!), including both of those, and feed a different one every day, or every few days.

The first one. It has a moderate/high protein level, lower fat, higher fiber. Chicken liver, egg product and Animal plasma are excellent nutrient sources, and I don't mind seeing them in there either. I don't really care to pay for the sprinkling of vegetable powders and "enzymes" but you can only overcome so many marketing gimmicks.

Neither, since my dog is allergic to both[;)]

Seriously, if my dog could eat anything, I think I'd choose the first, for similar reasons to Misskiwi. It's a little more moderate on the protein level, and it's chock full of antioxidants. Pumpkin seeds and montmorillonite will help keep your dog parasite free, parsley is great for the liver, cranberry is fantastic for the urinary tract. It's got a lot of good stuff.

They both have montmorillonite and pumpkin seeds. [;)]

I'd choose the first one because it doesn't have any synthetic vitamins and I think the protein and fat % in the second one is a little too high.

Edited to remove food names because I realized you might not want to use them.

I saw that[:D] The first food just has all those yummy antioxidants much higher on the list, and has the more moderate protein level. I'm not really fond of the higher protein levels in kibble, because of the ash content and digestive issues they can cause.

I would choose the first one as for reasons stated above. I am curious what brand it is, I would like to try it on zoey LOL

Ahhh, okay, the last one you posted is my absolute first choice of ANY kibble on the market!! I really like the fact that it has both fresh chicken and chicken meal, it's grain free, has fruits, veggies, berries, herbs, fish oil, probiotics, supplements... In a word, it's AWESOME! [:)] It's a little high in protein, but lower in fat and ash than other grain free kibbles. It doesn't have any of the ingredients that I'm avoiding or that my dog is allergic too, which is a tall order. [;)]

The only downside for me is that it's made by a Canadian company and so far is only available in Florida in the U.S. I checked on shipping and I'm going to have to wait until it's in my area.

Just so everyone knows... there is no definition for low ash... so while it may very well actually be low in ash, even 'Ol Roy could say that if they wanted to...

I would like to know what food that is though...
    • Gold Top Dog
I would feed the one my dog liked the best.
    • Gold Top Dog
what is that last food?  it sounds excellent.
As to the first "choice", the guy at the feed store told me a lot of people have complained the second food gives dogs serious gas.

My dog doesn't have gas on the 2nd one but her poop is not consistently firm.  I think the fat content may be a little higher than my dog can handle though she does okay with Barking ATM which is 20% fat.  I think the digestibility of the salmon (the main ingredient in Barking) helps overall versus chicken.  It's going to take me a while to get through the 12 pound bag since I mix it 50:50 at most (with TWO OB).  They do have the best kibble bag I've encountered (zip lock).  I'd like to see other manufacturers adopt that.

I've tried the "Duck & Salmon" version of the 1st food.  I had good results.  It actually has much more chicken than salmon (see below).  They will ship you a 4.4 pound bag if you e-mail them your shipping address.  I don't like the size choices choices of only 4.4 or 26.4 pound bags.

Duck Meal, Millet, Chicken Meal, Chicken Fat, Salmon Meal, Montmorillonite, Brewer's Yeast, Flaxseed, Dried Egg Product, Spray Dried Chicken Liver, Pumpkin Seed, Animal Plasma, Kelp, Natural Flavor, Cottage Cheese, Suncured Alfalfa Meal, Egg Shell, Avocado, Chicory Root, Tomato Powder, Almonds, Spray Dried Cod Liver Oil, Apple Powder, Blueberry, Apricots, Carrots, Pumpkin, Cranberry, Broccoli, Spinach, Parsley, Artichoke, Rosemary, Fermentation Products (Lactobacillus Acidophilus Fermentation Product Dehydrated, Lactobacillus Casei Fermentation Product, Bifidobacterium Bifidium Fermentation Product Dehydrated, Streptococcus Faecium Fermentation Product Dehydrated, Lactobacillus Sporogenes Fermentation Product Dehydrated), Enzymes (Amylase, Protease, Lipase, Cellulase, Bromelain), Mixed Tocopherols.

I recognize the third food choice posted by jamcony (the Canadian product) but it doesn't look significantly different from TWO Wild & Natural.  It would be good if Solid Gold weren't the only primarily fish higher protein kibble.

Well knowing the ingredients shows me that the first one is Nature's Logic, second one is Nature's Variety Raw instinct, and last one is Orijen.

I agree with abbysdad.  However, I have other issues with number 1 and I realllly wish that number 3 was sold in the US because I would love to try it.

Are your issues related to the animal plasma, cottage cheese, tomato powder or avocado?  Remember that it does not use the synthesized AAFCO premix but provides nutrients from natural sources.
