Dog food?

    Dog food?

I have two Pomeranians a 2 year old (shes about 7.2lbs -don't know if weight will help to find dog food) and an 9 week old (2.2lbs), and I've kinda of hit a problem. I bought puppy food for the little guy and my older Pom is on the adult version ( Nutro -Natural Choice- Lamb and Rice Adult Dog -my puppy is on the same one  but for puppies [:D]). I honestly  never thought of another brand. My mother in law suggested the Nutro after my older pom showed an Allergy to Iams and a few other foods. After my pom was put on Nutro she stopped puking and she no longer had diareah (sp?). Well my problem is its very difficult to feed them seperate foods.  Also I live in AB, Canada and the only pet store I have where I live is Petland and whatever walmart (basically walmart and grocery stores only have Iams and store brand food) and grocery stores sell.  Can anyone suggest a good dog food for all ages that doesn't have corn in it (as we are very sure its the corn she is allergic too)?[sm=happy.gif]

The innova foods don't have corn and are for all life stages, I've been happy with them so far.

I would try Innova (www.naturapet.com), Canidae (www.canidae.com), Nature's Variety (www.naturesvariety.com), Natural Balance (www.naturalbalanceinc.com)...there are a few more, but those are good to start with :)  There are store locaters on these sites to help you find a specialty store near you that will carry them (as they are not sold in large chain stores like Petsmart or Petco--with exception to Natural Balance which is sold at Petco).

Thanks for the help everyone! I'm going to write those down and shop around. I live in Grande Prairie, AB so hopefully I can find a store that has at least one of those brands. Thanks again Everyone! [sm=happy.gif]

Unless Canidae makes a small bites food, I think the kibbles will be too big for a Pom puppy.

I would look into a food with small kibbles like Nature's Variety, Eagle Pack Holisitc, or Timberwolf Organics.

Also, Innova isn't an all life stages, but I don't think it would be a problem for them both to eat either the puppy or adult food.

It is all life stages both the puppy and the EVO, I feed both mixed dry with evo canned :)

Gee, according to MY bag, Innova IS for all life stages.  I wean gsd pups from momma to Innova, the bright green bag.  Never had any issues with doing that.

I stand corrected. I looked at their website and apparently the one that I was thinking of as their "adult" formulas is "dog" dry. What doesn't make sense is that they also sell a puppy food. [8|]

Anyway you could word things a little nicer?

That was rude?  I'm sorry. It was short and to the point, but I sure didn't think I was being unkind.

I actually went downstairs and LOOKED at the bag to be sure that it hadn't changed.  A lot of lines that have an ALS food also have a puppy formula, most likely for those folks that feel that they MUST feed it, and Innova also markets a large breed AND l.b. puppy.  Again, I suspect this is to be sure that all the market bases are covered.  I personally don't think that most of them are needed by most breeds, but, manufacturers don't want to miss an nitch.

Glenda I think maybe it's just that it's hard to tell someone's tone on the internet. So that's it, from now on I'm just assuming the best!

Honestly, I didn't mean to be rude or curt.  But, I might have been just because my stress levels have been in another solar system for the past two weeks and I've got the danged flu and that trip downstairs to physically READ the bag...oh yeah, and finding my glasses to be able to......everything is taking wayyyy too much effort today.

Sorry to hear that you've been stressed out and hopefully your day will get better. I hope you feel better soon too! *Knock on wood* I haven't gotten sick yet this year- here's to hoping. [:D]

Two weeks ago today Mom managed to activate her lifeline after falling (repeatedly?) in the night and was taken to the hospital by ambulance.  Sis got there before the ambulance and mom was covered in blood.  She spent a few days in ICU and 10 days total in the hospital, so yeah, life has been a bit out of control.  There's a thread about all this around here someplace.  Now she's in a lovely nursing home to hopefully get to the point that she CAN go home again.

And, I don't usually get sick.  I *might* get a shingles outbreak when the stress leaves this solar system, but sick?  Not this girl.  But this time, oye!  One heck of a way to loose 12 pounds.........
