Dog food?

Glenda, you fed both, Innova and Canidae, what in your opinion is the better?
    • Gold Top Dog
I honestly can't say.  I like the ingredients in Innova better, but they are thriving on Canidae.....coats are great, skin is great, stools are the same.......but, I also only feed kibble in the mornings, they get homecooked or raw for dinner.

I feed Canidae, they have had some weight gain, I've tried to up the exercise.

Is Innova as Canidae in calorie content?
    • Gold Top Dog
Innova is 557 kcals per cup.  With Innova they get 2.5 cups and with Canidae slightly over 3 cups because it's at about 450....sorry, I don't have the energy to walk downstairs yet again......I guess that I figure the lower kcals balance out in the lower price of Canidae and the 7 extra pounds per bag.  But, I'd not still be feeding it if they weren't doing incredibly well on it.  And I'm one of those people who takes a craft stick out in the yard to dig through piles so I do watch things closely.....

    Thanks for the info[;)]

Well I'm not having much luck finding the dog foods listed. The only ones I can find are at Petland and its the Natural balance, and Eagle Pack Holisitc. Which is the better one to go with? Or should I keep shopping around town to try to find the others.

*EDIT* Sorry messed up its the Natural Balance not Natures Variety. Natural Variety, Innova, [color="#000000"]Timberwolf Organics [/color]and Canidae are not sold where I live.

Nature's Variety would probably be much better than Eagle Pack Holistic considering that you have a puppy....the protein in the EP formulas are too low for a puppy, muchless a small breed puppy.  I would go with Nature's Variety.

What about Chicken Soup dog food? ([linkhttp://www.chickensoupforthepetloverssoul.com/]http://www.chickensoupforthepetloverssoul.com[/link])  You can feed the adult formula to a puppy (it has the same guaranteed analysis as Innova and Canidae ALS).

Go to  [linkhttp://www.naturapet.com]www.naturapet.com[/link] and use the tools for the store locator to find an outlet near you for Innova and the like.

If you google and weed through all the crap, you should be able to find links for all the manufacturers and then you can check their sites for locations near you.  The best place for the good brands is the feed stores....think hay and oats.

Ya I went to all the website and alot of them where not in Grande Prairie. Its just the two options available to me right now. The  Chicken Soup dog food is about 5 hours away to the closest retailer near me, so I cant go that far for dog food [sm=wink.gif].

Anyone tried Natural Balance with there dogs? I'm thinking about going with that one if I can find one that doesn't have corn in it [sm=happy.gif]
    • Gold Top Dog
Hmmm...I'm trying to think of some others (long shots) that might be near you...

Artemis FreshMix-- Their small breed adult version is more than acceptable for a puppy ([linkhttp://www.artemiscompany.com/html/products/products_smallbreed_adult.htm]http://www.artemiscompany.com/html/products/products_smallbreed_adult.htm[/link])

Breeder's Choice foods (like AvoDerm, Pinnacle.. [linkhttp://www.breeders-choice.com/]http://www.breeders-choice.com/[/link]

I will add more if I can think of more...I'm kind of having a brain fart...lol

Oh yeah! What about Castor & Pollux Ultramix food? [linkhttp://www.castorpolluxpet.com/]http://www.castorpolluxpet.com/[/link]

I've been using the Sweet Potato and Fish Natural Balance in the mornings for Willow.  She's a fussy eater and has some sensitivities and GI issues and is doing extremely well on it.  And, to my knowledge none of the formulas contain corn.
    • Gold Top Dog
Hehehe I hate when that happens [sm=rofl.gif]

II really appreciate you helping me. I tried both the links you gave, and I had no luck finding a store near me. I never realized finding a decent dog food would be such a challenge [sm=biggrin.gif]

Thank you for the info. I'm going to petland later today with my list and I will make sure to look at that one, my pom is a very picky eater as well with a sensitive tummy.

Since you're here you obviously have access to  [linkhttp://www.petfooddirect.com]www.petfooddirect.com[/link] .  It does take at least a week to get it but if you're in the U.S. you have access to virtually everything.  If you ask here for a discount code someone will gladly give you a code that gets you 15-20% off.  Five hours?!

Hehe ya, I live in Grande prairie and Edmonton would take about 5 hours to get to because we have about 4ft of snow outside [sm=rofl.gif]. Ya it kinda sucks that lots of good stores online don't sell in Canada. I'm going to pick up a bag of Natural Balance seeing how its the only thing available to me. I hope its a good product for my lil poms [sm=happy.gif]
