I realize some have been helped by the inclusion of veggies (i.e. Connie, who helped keep her dog cancer free).  I speak in general though, mainly in regards to those who feel their pet should eat as they do themselves, and it just so happens they are veg heads.  Oh well, didn't mean to be offensive to those who feel the need to include green beans and pumpkin on a daily basis as part of a dogs diet.

Charlie i think your'e misunderstanding. My dogs rarely get fruit or veg. What i did mean however was that i wouldnt feed my dogs an ingredient that i would never ever consider feeding my kids. For example i would feed them everything found in EVO(what i feed),but i would NOT feed them anything found in,say pedigree et al.

I dont know if that pic of your dog is true to life, but he looks skinny to me.That could just be me tho,i have issues with underweight looking dogs, some people like them that way.Do you have any side on pics?

My kids love scrapple w/ breakfast!  If you have no scrapple experience, you're not from the Philly area!

Really sad how some people have to get their kicks off feeling superior to someone else

With all due respect Sooner, how can you judge how people are feeling. How can you say with all certainty that someone is feeling superior when they offer advice, how can you say they are only spouting off becasue they like to feel superior? I dont feel anything LOL,i post what i think and thats it,i personally have nothing to prove and the only people who can feel inferior to mines or anyone elses supposed superiority is themeselves [8D] No-one has the POWER to make anyone else feel inferior unless they let them!

From what I have read, scraps are used for suasage, bologna, hot dogs, but my family always ate them just fine.  And I fed them to my family.

Good Night, I just realized my parents should have never had any kids because we could not afford t-bone steaks, New York strip steaks, the top brand of sausage or bacon.  We ate a lot of beans seasoned with salt pork.  How did we ever survive without all the cream of the crop foods!  My parents sank to the low level of feeding us kids beans seasoned with SALT PORK, just pig fat.    I guess they didn't love us!

I have been in conversations like this on many boards, but never have I seen as many rude remarks as i have seen here.  How dare any of you say that we that don't feed YOUR WAY do not love our dogs.   Do we say that becuase you do not FEED OUR way that you do not love your dogs?  I never said feeding one way or the other is best because it should be left up to each person to do what THEY FEEL IS RIGHT FOR THEIR DOG,   not what someone else tells them is the RIGHT, THE ONLY, THE CORRECT  way.

Hi Christine!  I know what you saying.  Nobody likes to think of the nasty stuff that no doubt ends up in rendering plants.   I will say this though, if you feed a supermarket brand feed, don#%92t panic from the horror stories.  What germ is going to survive the extrusion process or baking process?  Chances are a fungus from some corn will likely kill your pet quicker than some nasty meat at a rendering plant.

You can't give someone advice if they quit reading after the first two lines because you've insulted them.

Telling someone they don't love their dog because they don't feed the way you think is best is not offering advice. And as far as feeding kids one dog food and another another, i would have to see with my own two eyes what is going into it, where it came from and how sanitary the factory is.  I do not just take the word of the manufacturer.

Did you know the FDA issued a hand delivered  warning letter to the Fort Dodge animal meds plant for unsanitary conditions--air flowing from one "contained " area to another, utensils not being sterilized, workers not wearing proper clothing to prevent contamination.  This letter can be found on [linkhttp://www.dogsadversereactions.com]www.dogsadversereactions.com[/link]   Well if this kind of unsanitary  conditions go on in a medical facility (animal in this case) with the FDA watching, how can  anyone be sure it isn't going on in ANY dog food plant?  You can't.

If you  have ever been in a slaughter house you would probably change your mind about eat meat period.  We use to go to one to get blood to make blood bait for fishing.  They will turn your stomach.  You don't see this when you buy meat in the grocery store or at the butcher--who got it from the slaughterhouse.

Oh, one other point, it is healthier to keep your dogs thin.  Much better on the joints.  Not skinny, but thin.  Mine are all actually still a little overweight.

Scraps, yes. 4D meats and euthanised domestic animals, no.

And who said hot dogs and bologna were healthy for you? They're not. They're fatty, salty, and chock full of preservatives (which are carcinogens!). I certainly won't eat them. I don't feed them to my family, or my pets.

Of course it is! Skinny is much better than fat. My vet keeps telling me to stop fretting over my ribby dog. I need to listen, but I worry. It's what I do.

Why said it wasn't healthier to keep the dogs thin?

I know, from experience, that it HURTS achey joints to carry extra pounds, so I actually like to keep my dogs a little on the leaner side of healthy. Both  of them have joint issues....

Sandra why do you keep popping up with this comment??? I have never seen anyone say "if you dont feed X brand you dont love your dogs",please stop being so paranoid,i'm sure no-one thinks you love your dog any less coz you feed Purina! And the comment of your parents shouldnt have kids coz they couldnt feed you T-bones was really below the belt and completely and utterly uncalled for and has absolutely nothing to do with the conversation at hand! Now you're starting tp put words into peoples mouths [&:]
Sandra feed your dogs what you want,if you're happy with it and are 100% comfortable feeding it and they dont do better on the natural super premiums then who cares!

And NO i do not eat sausages and compressed sandwich meats etc,i have No clue whats in them,i can only imagine[:'(],and i wont eat something who's origins are unknown!

Me too. I'd much rather see a dog look like our Emmas than like the vast majority of dogs look. I really think that our girls are MUCH healthier than a chubby dog. I know I'm a lot more comfortable being slightly underweight than I was when I was overweight.

Bonnie is a good 3kg(6lbs) heavier than Emma, and she puffs out far to quickly, quicker than emma, pants even when it's not hot and she's only a pound or less over what she should be.I am so ashamed that i let her get tubby, she's not fat or anything, but she could stand to lose a pound or two.Fat dogs make me cringe just as bad as skinny ones!
