    Started Canidae today!

Well, I got my first bag of Canidae today!!  I actually found a really great doggy daycare in the process, that just happens to be about 2 minutes away from me.  A hidden gem.  They sell Canidae, they offer doggy daycare, boarding, professional pet photography (wouldn't do it, but it's cool for other people),  and they're installing a self service dog wash.  I LOVE those, even though I come out with the front of my shirt soaked.
When I went to pick up my food I asked her if I could see the doggy daycare area.  (Of course I completely had ulterior motives.  I totally wanted to see the dogs!!)  It was very impressive!  It was very clean, actually, and she talked about the steps they take at night to sterilize it against kennel cough and other things.  We talked about temperment testing, and I told her Romy was a pit or pit mix.  I was impressed that she didn't immediately turn me away at that point.  She said they've had a couple of pits come and do just fine, but the only bad fight they've ever had was with one pit in paticular (who's not allowed to come again).
Anyway, I brought the bag of food home, and was SO excited.  The dogs seemed to love it.  I just switched them cold turkey.  Someone suggested not supplementing for a while to see how I like the food itself.  I'm going to give that a try and I'm going to be looking for a few things.  First, I'm expecting to see a little more energy in Romy.  This food has more protein than what I was previously feeding and all the testimonials about Canidae say it gives their dogs so much energy.  Second, I would like to see an improvement in Winston's itchiness.  And lastly I'd like to see smaller stools of a more normal color.  And, of course, I want their coats to stay as shiny and soft as they are now.

Also, my 37 lb bag of Nutro lasted a month and a half between both of them, so I hope this stretches as far.

I'm very excited to see what the results will be!

Hope they like their new food and it does everything you want it too.

So, are they going to be going to the day care??

Canidae is what FINALLY cured Boomer's dandruff. I hope it works as well for you. I'm switching back to it. I think we'll stay on it for a long time, it seemed to have to best results of anything we've tried.

I'm intrigued about this place you found. Would you mind PMing me the details?

Yaaaaay! Canidae is what I feed and so far it's kept Eevee's coat glossy and her dandruff down. She's also in the best shape she's ever been in, weight-wise. >^_^<

Lori, I totally rambled on about that daycare without ever making a point!  Hahaha.  Um...I want to take them to the daycare, but it's a little pricier than some others.  However, I was very impressed with it.  It's a fairly new business, as well, and I'm really excited about what they're doing so I'd like to help support them.  It's $17 a day so if I do it, I won't be able to do it very often at this point.

Sooner, thank you so much for suggesting it to me!  It's kind of silly how excited I am about trying it out.  (I think I'm suffering from some strange disease that causes you to become obsessed with everything dog related.)  I told my mom about the food and I think she might actually switch her dog, Angel, to it.  I told her how much it will help Angel's dry skin, and that there really shouldn't be a cost difference in the end.  (She's an amstaff on Iams.)
I'll definitely PM you the info about the doggy daycare.

It's the exact same with my dog!

My dog lost fat on this food but gained muscle...which was greatly needed.

Sooner, did you get my PM about the doggy daycare?
    • Gold Top Dog
Yep I got it, and I just got back from there... that place is great! I can make it right on my way to work. I think I'm going to start taking him a week from Monday. I'm also going to go by a couple more times next week at different times of day. I know there are more questions I should have asked, but that's the first daycare I've ever been in and I was a little overwhelmed while she was rattling everything off. They had 14 dogs today and they all looked so happy. I'm going to go start a thread in general questions about what specifically to look for.

Oh, and did I mention one of the guys out playing with the dogs was hot [;)]

Wow,,,, your baby is going to go to doggy day care,,,how neat!

Good luck with the Canidea....that is the first dog food we bought Ollie when we tried to find him a better food.   It was really popular a few years ago,,,a lot of people suggested it,,,now  they seemed to have moved on to another brand, but I had a hard time finding it here but finally did at a Natural Pet Store.   Ollie loved it at first but after a couple of bags, he wouldn't eat it anymore...don't know if it was that he wasn't eating anything or just not Canidea, but that was when we switched to EP.  Good luck!!

Boss really likes the canned Canidae that I mix in with his Evo and so does Gracie.

I have fed him the bagged before and didn't have any problems with his skin like I have with other foods.

Aussielover my dogs wont touch any form of canned food, they have even stopped eating the tinned tripe i was so excited about. The innova and california natural smell good enough to eat,but they just aint interested!

You have to stand tough with your little dog,she wont starve herself to death. If you want her to eat canidae then thats what she gets,it is sooooo much better than yucky iams!

You can do a quick changeover, put her bowl of canidae down, pick it up after 15 or so minutes whether she's eaten any or not, then do the same at the next meal time and so on and so on,she will soon learn to eat when her bowl is put down or else she gets nothing.Cut back on all treats aswell, treats make a huge difference in appetite for such a small dog.

Edited: I have heard canidae is not the best choice when it comes to fussy dogs,if you want to rotate different foods check out EVO www.naturapet.com most dogs cant resist it,or have a look at timberwolf organics which is another tempting dry food [sm=wink2.gif]
