Evo RF

if you don't mind grains, the elk is fine. If you're specifically looking for no-grain go with Ocean Blue. Even though the elk contains grains, it's still a really good food. What grains T.O uses in their foods are not processed and crap grains like you might find in grocery store dog foods.

Jaia, this page ([linkhttp://dogfoodproject.com/index.php?page=grain_free]http://dogfoodproject.com/index.php?page=grain_free[/link]) lists the grain free foods available, and whether or not they're suitable for large breed puppies.

On a completely different note, I'm usually pretty computer literate, but I cannot for the life of me figure out how to make my own words a link on this forum. Like, instead of saying "this page" and copying the URL, how do I make the "this page" the link to the site? I've tried every way I know how to do it elsewhere, but I can't make it work here. Anyone??

    Ok.
So no EVO for my not wet born pup....
What should I give him then??? Innova puppy?? It has grains in it I think....
I liked EVO because it didn't contain any...

There is i-dogger named Glenda on this forum. She raises German Shepards and feeds Innova. They make a large breed puppy food. I would go with Innova simply because another German Shepard owner went through all the expiramentation and found that Innova works. You can always feed Innova Evo when your GSD is about 1year 6 months.

Just a warning: I met a man who was trying to raise Argentinian Mastiffs (sorry spelling). He insisted on feeding a high protien no grain diet and was feeding Innova Evo to his pups. The pups looked horrible. For one they were underweight and they didn't move right. Not that Mastiff puppies aren't normally clumbsy at 6 months, but these pups were not right. Oh' and they wouldn't eat much. I finally convinced him to try Eagle Pack Holistic Large Breed Pup because I know quite a few mastiff breeders that have had good success with that food. But I don't know what happened after this.

Disclaimer:  No food is perfect for every dog or every breed

That said, I stand by Innova and I don't use large breed puppy formula for my foster pups, just all life stages in the bright green bag.

I won't feed EVO until everyone is a minimum of 2 years old.  GSD's can have odd growth patterns...one of mine hit a growth spurt just AFTER his second b'day.

I would NOT trust a manufacturers word on appropriate or not...Natura has changed their stance on EVO so many times that I have no clue what the current position is.

I don't think the EVO RF is terrible but it is a weight reduction food. I think something like the Nature's Variety frozen raw would actually give the dog more muscles (if exercised) while maintaining or gaining weight.
