Is anyone else having flashbacks to a certain poster who got herself banned, then created a new account and got herself banned again?

I thought I was the only one who noticed the similarity to myorganicpets...

I just read the ingredients for that new Kibbles n Bits off their web site.

INGREDIENTS: corn, soybean meal, ground wheat flour, beef and bone meal, animal fat (bha used as preservative), corn syrup, wheat middlings, animal digest (source of roasted chicken flavor), water sufficient for processing, propylene glycol, salt, hydrochloric acid, wheat gluten, caramel color, sodium tripolyphosphate, potassium chloride, vegetable blend (peas, carrots and green beans), sorbic acid (used as a preservative), titanium dioxide, sodium bisulfate, sodium carbonate, minerals (ferrous sulfate, zinc oxide, manganous oxide, copper sulfate, calcium iodate, sodium selenite), vitamins (vitamin e supplement, vitamin a supplement, niacin supplement, d-calcium pantothenate, riboflavin supplement, pyridoxine hydrochloride, thiamine mononitrate, vitamin d3 supplement, folic acid, biotin, vitamin b12 supplement), choline chloride, calcium sulfate, red 40, yellow 5, BHA (used as a preservative), blue 1, dl methionine, yellow 6.

Euthanized pets aside, those two ingredients are kind of, troubling.  Of what value is eating hydrochloric acid day after day?  Creepy.

Oooo, now they make a new dental food. Like that will help with all the corn syrup and other sugars in the food.

I feed Innova myself.  Any of the Natura products (makers of Innova) are excellent, altho I have a few concerns about their lower end product (healthwise).  Solid Gold, Eagle Pak Holistics, Timberwolf Organics are all good foods, and I'm sure that some of the others will be along with others.  I have fed Chicken Soup for the Dog Lovers Soul and it's a decent "Innova wanna be" but at least in my area the price is not enough lower to justify the lower kcals and while I was paying less per bag, I was also buying MORE bags.......

    Glenda,
    I thought you fed raw?
I know you feed homecooked, but don't you also feed raw?

Everyone here has a different idea of what is good. The best thing is to do some reading on foods and decide what ingredients you are comfortable with and pick a food on that basis.

[linkhttp://www.dogfoodproject.com/]This site[/link] has sections on reading labels, ingredients to avoid, and identifying better products.

[linkhttp://www.dogaware.com/dogfeeding.html#TopDry]This site[/link] and [linkhttp://www.greatdanelady.com/articles/criteria_list_of_better_foods.htm]this site[/link] list some of the better foods.

Personally I like Canidae, Nature's Variety, Natural Balance, Healthwise, California Natural, Royal Canin, and Sensible Choice.

There are all kinds of great foods out there.  I like sooner like Nature's Variety, Canidae, Natura, Solid Gold, Eagle Pack, Go Natural, Holistic Blend and other foods.  I also like a variety in my dogs diets, canned, tripe, sardines, salmon, fresh raw meats and veggie mushes, yogurt, berries, other fruits etc.  Real live foods have natural enzymes etc.

Even kirkland at costco is a decent food, it's made by diamond...altho they did have a problem with afloxin (sp) a while back...they still make a decent food.

Linda Arndt (known as The Great Dane Lady)  is a Canine Nutritional Consultant.  She has a list of kibble that she recommends.
She made up this list on these things. I all of the things on the list are a consideration when deciding what to try.
    • Feed trial results
    • Laboratory tests on guaranteed anaylsis
    • Philosophy of the company
    • Ethics of the company
    • Truth in advertising and marketing
    • Here is the website to see what her list consists of.

Ah, leave it to Sooner to answer this question. I, atleast, depend on this reliable response.

Really, these web sites are great.

When I recommend a food, I take into consideration the breed and the genetic problem that breed often has.

You have a chihuahua, they tend to be pretty healthy little guys, but they are prone to Urinary Tract problems, heart problems, and joint problems. They also are very fussy and obviously need something in a small kibble.

Innova Puppy would be a great choice.

-Innova puppy contains tomatos which will help prevent urinary tract problems and in their adult formulas (switch to at 8 months) they have cranberry meal with is even better for the urinary tract.
-I would also recommend feeding some canned food to ensure that your little guy gets enough water. Getting enough water is very important for animals that tend to get urinary tract infections
-Innova also contains garlic for the heart.
-The puppy formula is a small kibble and Innova makes a small bite adult formula.

Eagle Pack Holistic Chicken would also be a great food:
-It contains cranberry to help prevent urinary tract infections
-Garlic and Dandellion to help with the heart
-yucca and glucosamine and chondroitin to help prevent joint problems
-Eagle Pack Holistic Chicken is an all life stages food, meaning you can feed it to puppies, adults, and seniors.
-It is a tiny kibble formula

It will be difficult to get a chihuahua to eat a kibble at 3 months old because they are so very tiny. I would mix the kibble with some canned food. Eagle Pack makes a great puppy canned food, so does Innova but there are lots of great canned foods out there.

If you want a healthy food, your best bet is to buy it at a pet store, not the grocery store.

From what i remember the innova puppy kibble is larger than the adult one,i honestly dont know how a tiny chi would handle either of the regular innova kibbles?? I would go with the small bites if i had a small breed.
