Corn.....

• Corn..... sillysally Posted : 8/24/2006 2:00:16 PM This is something that I was always curious about....One reason people are VERY careful about allowing lots of corn in their horses diet is that most horses become "hot" or unnatureally full for energy when on too much corn.  Has the same thing been found to happen with dogs? I feed my guys Eagle Pack and rotate with Evo, but Back to Basics was recommended to me by another breeder, her dogs do great on it. Both companies explain the quality of the corn, the myths behind the corn controversy. I have read that it does contain high amounts of linoleic acid, Omega-6 Essential Fatty Acid. • tony Posted : 8/24/2006 5:12:09 PM Just for the record, most companies finely grind there corn before it is used in there kibble so it is not difficult to digest. Think of it more like corn bread or corn flakes, not whole corn kernels.   Corn is used for its starch or carbohydrate (90%) content which is added to the diet for calories. I do add some other stuff (RMB, EVO, canned, fresh veggies/fruits, etc) from time to time, but nothing that would constitute a large part of the diet. I have found that my dogs perform well with this food and feel that it's partly because of the corn. I have feed other foods without it and they just didn't have the "rebound", energy, condition, or coat on the other foods. Rice just doesn't do it for them!
